A novel approach to touch voltage risk assessment for gas pipelines in shared transmission corridors

open access: yesIET Science, Measurement &Technology, Volume 17, Issue 1, Page 27-36, January 2023., 2023
Abstract Touch voltages are more likely to appear on long‐distance pipelines that lie in shared corridors with transmission lines. The touch voltage level varies with soil resistivity and can become hazardous while maintenance is being undertaken, necessitating risk assessment.

Long‐term hydrologic connectivity on the Australian dryland margins: Evidence from the Willandra Lakes World Heritage Area over the last 60 ky

open access: yesJournal of Quaternary Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The semi‐arid Australian continental inland is increasingly subject to climatic extremes such as drought and flooding. Combined with the exceptionally low topographic relief characteristic of this region, hydroclimatic extremes can have an enormous impact on the land surface.

Efficient data reduction for time‐of‐flight neutron scattering experiments on single crystals

open access: yesJournal of Applied Crystallography, Volume 55, Issue 6, Page 1514-1527, December 2022., 2022
In neutron scattering experiments, data sets with different statistical significance are collected. A new method is presented to efficiently calculate the weights of single‐crystal time‐of‐flight measurements, and to add together the various contributions.Event‐mode data collection presents remarkable new opportunities for time‐of‐flight neutron ...

Universal Reconstruction of Complex Magnetic Profiles with Minimum Prior Assumptions [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Understanding the intricate magnetic structures of materials is crucial for the advancements in material science, spintronics, and geology. Recent developments of quantum-enabled magnetometers, such as nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers in diamond, have enabled direct imaging of magnetic field distributions associated with a wide variety of magnetic ...

Greater sage‐grouse seasonal habitat associations: A review and considerations for interpretation and management applications

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, EarlyView.
We examined habitat associations from second‐ and third‐order habitat selection studies conducted on greater sage‐grouse and summarize the types of designs used and the qualitative associations reported. We suggest a combination of study design choices and context‐dependence selection patterns can prohibit the transferability of study findings when the

Preparation of pyrite concentrate powder from the Thackaringa mine for quantitative phase analysis using X‐ray diffraction

open access: yesJournal of Applied Crystallography, Volume 55, Issue 6, Page 1572-1582, December 2022., 2022
A method for performing accurate quantitative phase analysis using X‐ray powder diffraction of pyrite concentrate mineral samples from the Thackaringa mine has been devised. The sample preparation optimization process is described. Grain size reduction suitable for analysis by the Rietveld method was achieved using ball milling. The quantitative phase ...

Rocketquake Seismology with a Falcon 9 Rocket Source [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
We investigate the feasibility of using rocket launches, specifically rocketquakes, as a seismic source to image subsurface velocity and geology of planetary bodies. Toward this goal, we record the seismic vibrations excited by a Falcon 9 rocket launch from Vandenberg Space Force Base (SFB) near Lompoc, California.
