Safe operation of inverted siphon during ice period

Journal of Hydrodynamics, 2015
Abstract Sixteen inverted siphons are in operation at the Beijing-Shijiazhuang section in the Middle Route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project. Their safe operation is closely related to the safety and the water diversion efficiency of the whole project during an ice period.

Preventing Sediment Deposition in Inverted Sewer Siphons

Journal of Hydraulic Engineering, 2003
Laboratory experiments were carried out to determine minimum self-cleansing velocities for preventing deposition of sediment in upward sloping and vertical pipes of inverted siphons. Tests were made using sediment sizes of 0.78 and 4.3 mm in a pipe of 150 mm diameter for eight angles of inclination between 0 and 90°.

Tel Bet Yeraḥ, the Inverted Siphon Pipeline

Hadashot Arkheologiyot - Excavations and Surveys in Israel, 2013
During January-February 2012, a salvage excavation was conducted in the date orchards north of Qevuzat Kinneret and south of Moshava Kinneret (Permit No. A-6374; map ref. 253500/735775), in the wake of development work for the modern pipeline carriers, diverting saline waters south

Temperature Control Simulation Study of Inverted Siphon in Construction

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2013
This paper using three-dimensional non-steady, nonlinear temperature field and creep stress field of simulation theory, establishes a FORTRAN program for simulating the temperature and stress during the construction of inverted siphon, analyzes the temperature and stress changes and distribution of siphon walls, and proposes the scientific and ...

A simplified approach for the computation of steady two-phase flow in inverted siphons

Journal of Environmental Management, 2016
Hydraulic, sanitary, and sulfide control conditions of inverted siphons, particularly in large wastewater systems, can be substantially improved by continuous air injection in the base of the inclined rising branch. This paper presents a simplified approach that was developed for the two-phase flow of the rising branch using the energy equation for a ...

Pipe Culverts – Throttling Pipes – Inverted Siphons

2010
Culverts are characterized hydraulically by various flow conditions. They are discussed first and then analyzed with a generalized diagram to present a simple design method. The so-called simple culvert is also considered, and the computational approach is compared with model tests.

Minimum Self-Cleansing Velocities for Inverted Sewer Siphons

Building Partnerships, 2000
Laboratory experiments were carried out to determine minimum self-cleansing velocities for preventing deposition of sediment in upward sloping and vertical pipes of inverted siphons. Tests were made using sediment sizes of 0.78mm and 4.3mm in a pipe of 150mm diameter for eight angles of inclination between 0° and 90°.

Experimental Investigations of Sedimentation at an Ascending Inverted Siphon Branch

Volume 2: Multiphase Flows Applications; Fluids Applications; Microfluidics; Fluids Mechanics Fundamentals; Fluids Engineering Education
Abstract The reliable transport of wastewater in both urban and rural areas faces a variety of challenges. One of the key difficulties is bypassing obstacles such as rivers, canals, and subway lines. Particular designs of culverts, so-called Inverted Siphons, are well-suited to circumvent these critical locations.

Self-Vibration Characteristics of Plane Gate in Inverted Siphon Project

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2012
Based on the vibration problem of the plane gate in the inverted siphon exit of a large-scale hydraulic project in northern Xinjiang, the software ANSYS is used to build the entity model and finite element model. Considering the influence of fluid-solid coupling, the self-vibration characteristics of the gate in the water and without water are analyzed.
