Adult Sex Ratio as a Demographic Feedback Linking Mating Systems, Parental Care, and Evolution

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Breeding systems are some of the most diverse social behavior, and our team is investigation the evolutionary causes of this diversity. This review summarises our research carried out at the University of Bath. We argue that demographic components of wild populations, especially the adult sex ratio, plays a key role driving breeding system variation ...

Optimal Grazing Exclusion Duration to Enhance Soil Carbon Sequestration in Degraded Grasslands

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Across China, grazing exclusion reaches the national mean soil organic carbon recovery benchmark sooner in high‐MAP regions (> 500 mm), but recovery is much slower where MAP < 300 mm. Scaling this strategy to 70% of China's degraded grasslands would sequester about 1.52 Pg of soil carbon over 10 years—roughly 17% of annual global fossil‐fuel emissions.

Public expenditure and growth [PDF]

open access: yes
Given that public spending will have a positive impact on GDP if the benefits exceed the marginal cost of public funds, the present paper deals with measuring costs and benefits of public spending.

Nanomedicine Meets Immunotherapy: Advancing Adoptive Cell Therapy with Nanoparticles in the Treatment of Cancer with Sustainability Perspectives

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This review surveys nanoparticle‐based strategies to enhance adoptive cell therapy, particularly CAR‐T cell approaches, in solid tumor treatment. It describes how nanoparticles can improve tumor immunogenicity and T‐cell infiltration while reducing toxicity, and how they enable in vivo CAR‐T cell generation.

A Rational Optimization Approach for the Development of a Multiplexed Lateral Flow Immunoassay: Detection of Nonepithelial Ovarian Cancer Markers in Human Serum

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study outlines the developmental pipeline of a multiplexed nanozyme‐based lateral flow immunoassay for the purpose of ovarian germ cell tumor detection. It demonstrates the application of a design of experiments optimization approach for nanozyme probe conjugate development.

The Faraday Scalpel: Electrochemical Nerve Lesioning Mechanisms Studied in Invertebrate Models

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Direct‐current produces nerve lesioning through discrete electrochemical reactions. Using hypoxia‐sensitive locust nerves and hypoxia‐tolerant leech nerves, we map three injury pathways: cathodic oxygen reduction, cathodic alkalization, and anodic chloride oxidation. These findings establish electrochemical lesioning—the “Faraday Scalpel”—as a precise,

ML Workflows for Screening Degradation‐Relevant Properties of Forever Chemicals

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The environmental persistence of per‐ and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) necessitates efficient remediation strategies. This study presents physics‐informed machine learning workflows that accurately predict critical degradation properties, including bond dissociation energies and polarizability.

Risk evaluation for overseas investment projects

open access: yes, 1996
It has been the practice in the industry to assess overseas investment risks based on measures such as intuition, insight or experience. The approach is rather subjective and the outcome of the evaluation can be rather unrealistic even at the hand of an experienced manager. Literature review of various methods available for risk evaluation also pointed

Investment projects: evaluation tools and methods

open access: yes, 2013
Given the need to study di erent areas of analysis during the investment decision process, it is imperative to know which tools and methods are used by companies to assess various financial and non- financial aspects. As regards tools, we find that fi rms use checklists of analysis for non- financial aspects, whereas they use their past experience in ...
