Flexible Scheduling in Multimedia Kernels: an Overview [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
Current Hard Real-Time (HRT) kernels have their timely behaviour guaranteed on the cost of a rather restrictive use of the available resources. This makes current HRT scheduling techniques inadequate for use in a multimedia environment where we can make ...

A Virtual Clinical Trial of Psychedelics to Treat Patients With Disorders of Consciousness

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Disorders of consciousness after severe brain injury are marked by reduced complexity of brain activity and limited treatment options. Using personalized whole‐brain models, this study shows that simulated lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) and psilocybin shift patient brain dynamics closer to criticality.

Polygon spaces and Grassmannians

open access: yes, 1995
We study the moduli spaces of polygons in R^2 and R^3, identifying them with subquotients of 2-Grassmannians using a symplectic version of the Gel'fand-MacPherson correspondence.

A Self‐Organized Liquid Reaction Container for Cellular Memory

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
How cells restore epigenetic information lost during replication is not known. This work proposes a mechanism based on the formation of biomolecular condensates. These condensates are induced by the chromosome itself and serve as reaction vessels for reconstructing missing epigenetic markers.

The Interaction Between Truth Maintenance, Equality, and Pattern-Directed Invocation: Issues of Completeness and Efficiency [PDF]

open access: yes, 1987
We have implemented a reasoning system, called BREAD, which includes truth maintenance, equality, and pattern-directed invocation. This paper reports on the solution of two technical problems arising out of the interaction between these mechanisms.

Engineering Adaptive Immunity in 3D: A Patient‐Specific Lymphoid Model Using Stromal Networks and Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study presents a 3D lymphoid tissue model engineered from adipose‐derived stem cells differentiated into fibroblastic reticular cell–like networks and co‐cultured with immune cells. The engineered system successfully generates antigen‐specific antibodies and cytokine responses, providing a platform for studying adaptive immunity, vaccine efficacy,

Performance comparison between Java and JNI for optimal implementation of computational micro-kernels [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
General purpose CPUs used in high performance computing (HPC) support a vector instruction set and an out-of-order engine dedicated to increase the instruction level parallelism.

A Quantum Framework for Protein Binding‐Site Structure Prediction on Utility‐Level Quantum Processors

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study presents a hybrid quantum‐classical framework for accurate prediction of protein structures on utility‐level quantum processors. We evaluate the practical application of the Variational Quantum Eigen‐solver (VQE) in protein structure prediction and demonstrate its superiority over state‐of‐the‐art deep learning methods in molecular docking ...

Atomistic Insights into the Electrochemical Oxygen Evolution Activity of Hollandite IrO2 Surfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Lattice distortions at tunnel‐structured hollandite IrO2 surfaces reshape Ir‐O bonding: they weaken the σ‐bond contribution in the Ir‐*OH bond while enhancing the π contribution of the Ir‐*O bond. This orbital reorganization in hollandite surfaces stabilizes *O, facilitates the *OH → O step, and lowers the oxygen‐evolution reaction overpotential ...

Distributed Deterministic Edge Coloring using Bounded Neighborhood Independence [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We study the {edge-coloring} problem in the message-passing model of distributed computing. This is one of the most fundamental and well-studied problems in this area.
