Tooth Profile of an Involute Gear

1987
In general, the tooth profile of a rack may be curved, and the profile angle \(\phi^{\rm A_r}\) would then vary from one point of the tooth to another. We now consider a particular rack, in which the teeth are straight-sided. This is the basic rack which we use to define the tooth shape of an involute gear.

Noise of Involute Helical Gears

Journal of Engineering for Industry, 1969
The problem of involute helical gear noise is studied by running a pair of 6 DP gears in a power circulating rig inside an anechoic room. More than 3500 magnetic tape recordings were taken and analyzed, for gears running at different speeds and transmitting different loads.

Cylindrical Involute Helical Gears

2020
In this chapter, the fundamentals of cylindrical involute helical gears geometry are given and the related main quantities are defined, including the total length of the line of action. The equivalent parallel cylindrical spur gears and their virtual number of teeth are also determined.

Geometry of Non-Involute Gears

1987
In this chapter, we will first show how to calculate the tooth shape of a gear, when it is conjugate to a basic rack of arbitrary shape. This material is not required when the basic rack has straight-sided teeth, since we have already shown how to calculate the tooth profile shape of an involute gear.
