Design and chemical synthesis of iodine-containing molecules for application to solar-pumped I* lasers [PDF]

open access: yes
Research is directed toward the design and synthesis of new media for solar-pumped I* lasers. Since the most effective existing lasants are perfluoroalkyl iodides, a strategy was proposed for the development of improved materials of this type with ...

One-pot near-ambient temperature syntheses of aryl(difluoroenol) derivatives from trifluoroethanol [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Difluoroalkenylzinc reagents prepared from 1-(2’-methoxy-ethoxymethoxy)-2,2,2-trifluoroethane and 1-(N,N-diethylcarbamoyloxy)-2,2,2-trifluoroethane at ice bath temperatures, underwent Negishi coupling with a range of aryl halides in a convenient one pot ...

Endothelial Cells Angiogenesis in Sulfated Glycosaminoglycan (GAG) Hydrogels Enhanced by Bioactive Glass‐Released Ions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A mechanically tunable hydrogel composed of gelatin, chondroitin sulfate and laminin promotes angiogenesis in vitro without the supplement of growth factors. Endothelial cells morphogenesis was further enhanced by medium conditioned with bioactive glass 58S‐released ions (Ca and Si), thus offering a promising strategy to vascularize 3D tissue ...

Part 1. Reduction of S-alkyl-thionocarbonates and related compounds in the presence of trialkylboranes/air

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2007
A new, mild, and environment friendly process for the reduction of S-alkyl-thionocarbonates, iodides and related compounds to the corresponding hydrocarbons at room temperature with good to excellent yields is described. This method uses a trialkylborane

Iodide-Induced Thyrotoxicosis

open access: yesMedicine, 1983
Iodide-induced thyrotoxicosis (IIT) occurs in patients with: 1) endemic goiter; 2) nonendemic goiter; 3) no previous thyroid disease. Iodine prophylaxis for endemic goiter caused transient increase of 0.01-0.04% over the basal incidence of hyperthyroidism peaking at 1-3 years and normalizing in 3-10 years despite continued iodide exposure.

Structural trends from a consistent set of single-crystal data of REFeAsO (RE = La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Gd, and Tb) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
A new crystal growth technique for single-crystals of REFeAsO (RE = La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Gd, and Tb) using NaI/KI as flux is presented. Crystals with a size up to 300 $\mu$m were isolated for single-crystal X-ray diffraction measurements.

Exciton Binding Energy Modulation in 2D Perovskites: A Phenomenological Keldysh Framework

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The intrinsic screening effects are successfully decoupled from structural distortion by rigorously designing a series of 2D perovskites. This enabled us to demonstrate how the dielectric environment modulates the quasiparticle bandgap and exciton binding energy.

Conversion of Aryl Iodides into Aryliodine(III) Dichlorides by an Oxidative Halogenation Strategy Using 30% Aqueous Hydrogen Peroxide in Fluorinated Alcohol

open access: yesMolecules, 2010
Oxidative chlorination with HCl/H2O2 in 1,1,1-trifluoroethanol was used to transform aryl iodides into aryliodine(III) dihalides. In this instance 1,1,1-trifluoroethanol is not only the reaction medium, but is also an activator of hydrogen peroxide for ...

7-Aminoheptylazanium iodide [PDF]

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section E Structure Reports Online, 2011
The absolute structure of the title compound, [H(3)N-(CH(2))(7)-NH(2)]I, has been determined from the diffraction experiment, the Flack parameter refining to −0.02 (2). In the crystal, adjacent symmetry-related cations are connected by head-to-tail R′H(2)N(+)—H⋯NH(2) R hydrogen bonds, forming chains along [010].
