Immediate Mild Reactions to CT with Iodinated Contrast Media: Strategy of Contrast Media Readministration without Corticosteroids.

Radiology, 2018
Purpose To evaluate premedication protocols involving administration of antihistamine and multidose corticosteroid that have been widely used in prevention of recurrent hypersensitivity reactions (HSRs) to iodinated contrast media (ICM); an evidence ...

Acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis induced by iomeprol with cross‐reactivity to other iodinated contrast agents and mild reactions after rechallenge with iopromide and oral corticosteroid premedication

Contact Dermatitis, 2019
Immediate hypersensitivity reactions to iodinated contrast media (ICM) are rare and occur within 1 hour after infusion, but also up to 7 days later. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

Adverse reactions to iodinated contrast media: Safety of a study protocol that includes fast full‐dose parenteral challenge tests searching for an alternative contrast media

Clinical and Experimental Allergy, 2019
Iodinated contrast media (ICM) were introduced into clinical practice to improve both diagnostic imaging and therapeutic procedures. Current ICM formulations are based on tri-iodobenzoic acid ring.

Iodinated Radiological Contrast Media as Radiosensitizers

International Journal of Radiation Biology and Related Studies in Physics, Chemistry and Medicine, 1977
This paper describes the radiosensitizing effects of diatrizoic (DA) and iothalamic (ITA) acids and of iodipamide (IP) on the survival of E coli B/r irradiated with X-rays and with high-intensity electron pulses. All compounds at concentrations between 10 and 50 mM display a strong sensitizing effect in the presence of oxygen (DMF between 0-1 and 0-3 ...

Immediate reactions to iodinated contrast media

Annals of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, 2017
Immediate hypersensitivity reactions (IHRs) to iodinated contrast media (ICMs) remain a common clinical concern. Positive skin test and basophil activation test results suggest a specific IgE-mediated mechanism in some cases. Skin test and controlled challenge test (CCT) are useful to manage these patients. To study clinical and allergologic features of

Anaphylactoid reactions to iodinated contrast material

Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, 1978
A review of the literature involving anaphylactoid reactions to iodinated contrast material (ICM) suggests that the reactions are nonantibody-mediated but that a complex activation of inflammatory mediators occurs. Histamine release and/or complement activation has been demonstrated in both in vitro and in vivo experimental systems.

Current Radiographic Iodinated Contrast Agents

Magnetic Resonance Imaging Clinics of North America, 2017
Millions of radiologic examinations requiring the use of iodinated contrast are performed yearly in North America. Triiodobenzoic acid, the contrast agent molecule currently in use, is a benzene ring covalently bonded to the 3 iodine atoms. Iodinated contrast media can be divided in 4 categories: ionic monomers, ionic dimers, nonionic monomer, and ...

Iodinated contrast agents in myasthenia gravis

Neurology, 1987
Administration of intravenous iodinated contrast agents has been reported to cause increased weakness in myasthenia gravis (MG) patients. We reviewed the records of 136 patients with MG who had at least one radiologic procedure involving intravenously administered contrast media.

Anaphylactoid Reactions to Iodinated Contrast Media

Academic Radiology, 2002
The mechanisms of immediate reactions to iodinated contrast media (ICM) are currently debated. Most of them and especially the minor and mild ones are being attributed to a direct, non-specific effect of the molecule (1), and a smaller number of severe cases, are suspected to be anaphylactic, IgE-depending events (2).
