The effect of desiccation on the emission of volatile bromocarbons from two common temperate macroalgae [PDF]
Exposure of intertidal macroalgae during low tide has been linked to the emission of a variety of atmospherically-important trace gases into the coastal atmosphere.

The effects of halogen elements on the opening of an icosahedral B12 framework [PDF]
The fully halogenated or hydrogenated B12X12 (X = H, F, Cl, Br and I) clusters are confirmed to be icosahedral. On the other hand, the bare B12 cluster is shown to have a planar structure. A previous study showed that a transformation from an icosahedron

Probing key organic substances driving new particle growth initiated by iodine nucleation in coastal atmosphere [PDF]
Unlike the deep understanding of highly oxygenated organic molecules (HOMs) driving continental new particle formation (NPF), little is known about the organic compounds involved in coastal and open-ocean NPF.

Crystal structure, stability and optoelectronic properties of the organic-inorganic wide bandgap perovskite CH3NH3BaI3: Candidate for transparent conductor applications [PDF]
Structural stability, electronic structure and optical properties of CH3NH3BaI3 hybrid perovskite is examined both from theory as well as experiment. Solution-processed thin films of CH3NH3BaI3 exhibited a high band gap of approximately 3.87 eV, which is in excellent agreement with the theoretical estimate of 4 eV.

Suppression of axionic charge density wave and onset of superconductivity in the chiral Weyl semimetal Ta$_2$Se$_8$I [PDF]
A Weyl semimetal with strong electron-phonon interaction can show axionic coupling in its insulator state at low temperatures, owing to the formation of a charge density wave (CDW). Such a CDW emerges in the linear chain compound Weyl semimetal Ta$_2$Se$_8$I below 263 K, resulting in the appearance of the dynamical condensed-matter axion quasiparticle.

The thermodynamic trends of intrinsic defects in primary halide perovskites: A first-principles study [PDF]
Defects in halide perovskites play an essential role in determining the efficiency and stability of the resulting optoelectronic devices. Here, we present a systematic study of intrinsic point defects in six primary metal halide perovskites, MAPbI$_3$, MAPbBr$_3$, MAPbCl$_3$, FAPbI$_3$, CsPbI$_3$ and MASnI$_3$, using density functional theory ...

Structures and Physical Properties of CsV$_2$Se$_{2-x}$O and V$_2$Se$_2$O [PDF]
By using solid-state reactions, we successfully synthesize new oxyselenides CsV$_2$Se$_{2-x}$O (x = 0, 0.5). These compounds containing V$_2$O planar layers with a square lattice crystallize in the CeCr$_2$Si$_2$C structure with the space group of $P4/mmm$.

Surface Charge Induced Dirac Band Splitting in a Charge Density Wave Material (TaSe4)2I [PDF]
(TaSe4)2I, a quasi-one-dimensional (1D) crystal, shows a characteristic temperature-driven metal-insulator phase transition. Above the charge density wave (CDW) temperature Tc, (TaSe4)2I has been predicted to harbor a Weyl semimetal phase. Below Tc, it becomes an axion insulator.
