Microscopic dose distributions due to iodine isotopes in thyroid

Radiation and Environmental Biophysics, 1978
Microscopic electron dose distributions inside and outside the colloid spheres of thyroid tissue of radii 15-150 micron containing 1.5 muCi/g 123I, 125I, 131I, and 132I uniformly distributed have been calculated by the application of Berger's scaled absorbed dose functions approximately standard polynomial regression techniques.

Temporal Variation of Iodine Isotopes in the North Sea

Environmental Science & Technology, 2014
Monitoring temporal variability of (129)I in the North Sea, a relatively large reservoir of radioactive discharges from the nuclear fuel reprocessing facilities, is vital for the environmental situation in the region. New information on concentration levels and distribution of (129)I and (127)I and their species forms (iodide and iodate) are gained ...

123‐Iodine: a New Isotope for Functional renal Scanning

British Journal of Urology, 1977
The results are presented of functional renal scanning in 11 urological patients using 123-iodine labelled Hippuran--a new radiopharmaceutical. The 123-iodine isotope possesses distinct advantages over existing isotopes, permitting high resolution imaging whilst delivering a low integrated radiation dose.

Iodine determination in milk by isotope dilution analysis

Journal of Radioanalytical and Nuclear Chemistry, 2004
Iodine is an essential trace element in the human diet. It is utilized in the synthesis of L-monoiodothyrosine, which is a precursor of the thyroid hormones, thyroxin and triiodothyronin. In this study, a method that can determine iodine concentrations in milk has been developed. The method is based on substoichiometric isotope dilution analysis (IDA).

Measurements on electromagnetically separated radioactive isotopes of iodine

Journal of Inorganic and Nuclear Chemistry, 1957
Abstract The mass range 124–135 of iodine isotopes formed in 170 MeV proton-induced fission of uranium has been studied using an electromagnetic isotope separator to prepare mass-determined samples for Geiger-Muller counting. Relative formation cross-sections are given for the shielded nuclides: 12·6 hr 130I (1·0), 25 min 128I (0·7), 13 day 126I (0·4)

Studies with natural and anthropogenic iodine isotopes: iodine distribution and cycling in the global environment

Journal of Environmental Radioactivity, 2004
Iodine is an important trace element in geological and biological processes. We summarize here recent results and new data of experiments and observations carried out to improve the understanding of concentration levels and behavior of natural and anthropogenic iodine nuclides in the global environment.

The preparation of carrier-free iodine isotope-substituted cytosine nucleotides

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Nucleic Acids and Protein Synthesis, 1974
Abstract Cytosine nucleotide triphosphates can be iodinated with carrier-free iodine isotopes and separated from the parent compounds yielding products which have a 75 times ( 125 I) or 550 times ( 131 I) higher specific activity than commercially available tritium-labeled nucleotides.

Determination of iodine in organic iodine compounds by the non-equilibrium isotopic exchange method

Journal of Radioanalytical Chemistry, 1977
A new type of the isotope exchange method of analysis is proposed. The method can be applied to the exchange system in which the rate of the exchange reaction is rather slow but measurable, before the exchange equilibrium is attained. The validity of the principle of the method is verified experimentally with several exchange systems of RyI+KI*⇌RyI*+KI

A review of groundwater iodine mobilization, and application of isotopes in high iodine groundwater

Environmental Geochemistry and Health
Excessive intake of iodine will do harm to human health. In recent years, high iodine groundwater has become a global concern after high arsenic and high fluorine groundwater. A deep understanding of the environmental factors affecting iodine accumulation in groundwater and the mechanism of migration and transformation is the scientific prerequisite ...

Iodine isotopes in radiation hygiene.

Journal of hygiene, epidemiology, microbiology, and immunology, 1980
Radioactive isotopes of iodine rank among the factors of anthropogenic contamination of the biosphere. The review presents a radiation-hygienic survey of literary data and the author's own results of studies of the metabolism and biological effect of radioactive isotopes of iodine. The risk of their intake by human organism is evaluated.
