Electron-Ion, Ion-Ion, and Ion-Neutral Interactions

1990
In my talk, I will present an overview of ongoing work in the area of electron-ion, ion-ion, and ion-neutral reactions. Clearly, this is a very wide field. Rather than trying to cover the whole field, I will focus my discussion on effects which are of importance in high-pressure plasmas, where the “high pressure” regime is defined as that in which ...

Ion-ion collisions involving H− ions

AIP Conference Proceedings, 1990
A report is given on recent crossed‐beams experiments studying single‐ and double‐electron removal from H− in energetic collisions with Arq+ (q≤8) ions. The data is discussed with respect to conversion efficiencies of H− to neutral H0 in plasma neutralizers proposed for efficient neutral beam heating of future fusion devices.

Ion-Ion Collisions

1995
Theoretical and experimental data on ion-ion collisions are quite limited because this problem is a relatively young field of physics stimulated by recent research on thermonuclear fusion with inertial and magnetic confinement. Only since 1977, the experimental data on charge-exchange and ionization, involving singly or doubly charged ions, obtained by

Electron–Ion and Ion–Ion Dissociative Recombination of Oxygen. II. Ion–Ion Recombination

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1968
The rate coefficient and the thermal cross section for the oxygen ion–ion dissociative recombination are calculated using the semiclassical formalism. The motion of the heavy particles (positive and negative ions) in their mutual Coulomb field is treated classically. At certain ranges of the ion–ion separation (determined from energy conservation), the

Ion-ion recombination in an ambient ion gas

Journal of Physics B: Atomic and Molecular Physics, 1982
Attention is drawn to collisional ion-ion recombination X++Y-+X+ (or Y-) to XY+X+ (or Y-) which can be important when the ion density ni is very high. If, for example, X+ is Kr+ and Y- is F- the recombination coefficient alpha i is 3.0*10-7 (300/ theta )4.5(ni/1015) cm3 s-1 where theta is the temperature.

Effect of Light Ions on Ion-Ion Instability

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2003
Effects of light ions on an ion‐ion instability are investigated in laboratory experiments. Spatial growth rates of the instability are measured by an interferometer method. The results show that the growth rate of the instability is affected by light ions and is reduced by increasing their amount.

Ion—Ion Recombination

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1964
The three-body recombination rate for molecular ions is calculated at low density, including the effect of dissociative collisions on the molecular complex initially formed by the recombination process. The effect of an increase in ionic mass due to the attachment of neutral molecules to the ion is also determined. The recombination rate is found to be

Ion-ion recombination at high ion density

Journal of Physics B: Atomic and Molecular Physics, 1985
By appeal to a Thomson-style treatment of recombination, it is shown that the rate for recombination of ions generated with uniform frequency within a reaction volume is a factor of 9/4 times greater than the rate for recombination of ions which approach each other from infinite separation.

Ion Pumps, Ion Pathways, Ion Sites

1986
There has been a rapidly growing list of ATP-fueled ion pumps. Most of these are H+-transporting ATPases ranging from the mitochondrial F1F0 ATPase through the H+ pump of intracellular organelles to the gastric H+-K+ ATPase (Racker, 1976; Cidon and Nelson, 1983; Sachs et al, 1976).

Production and ion-ion cooling of highly charged ions in electron string ion source

Review of Scientific Instruments, 2009
The scheme of an internal injection of Au atoms into the working space of the “Krion-2” electron string ion source (ESIS) was applied and tested. In this scheme Au atoms are evaporated from the thin tungsten wire surface in vicinity of the source electron string. Ion beams with charge states up to Au51+ were produced.
