Distonoid ions [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the American Society for Mass Spectrometry, 2006
By Yates, Bouma, and Radom's definition, distonic radical ions are those formally arising by ionization of diradicals or zwitterionic molecules (including ylides). These ions differ, therefore, from conventional radical ions by displaying the charge site and unpaired electron site (spin) localized mandatorily on separate atoms or group of atoms; that ...

Ion response in a weakly ionized plasma with ion flow [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We study the ion response to an initial perturbation in a weakly ionized plasma with ion flow driven by a dc electric field. The analysis is made by extending the classical Landau work [J. Phys. (USSR) 10, 25 (1946)] to the ion kinetic equation including ion-neutral collisions and a dc electric field.

Sympathetic and swap cooling of trapped ions by cold atoms in a MOT [PDF]

open access: yesNat. Commun. 3:1126 (2012), 2011
A mixed system of cooled and trapped, ions and atoms, paves the way for ion assisted cold chemistry and novel many body studies. Due to the different individual trapping mechanisms, trapped atoms are significantly colder than trapped ions, therefore in the combined system, the strong binary ion$-$atom interaction results in heat flow from ions to atoms.

Realisation of homogeneous ion chain using surface traps [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
In a Radio-Frequency linear ion trap, 1D ion chains are routinely generated in laboratories around the world. They present a non-homogenous ion density along the chain. The possibility of generating uniformly distributed ion chain, where the distance between any adjacent ions is a constant, would open up new type of experiments in the context of ...

An Overview of Researches on Laser Ion Acceleration Using Mixed Solid Target and Single Ion Target [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
The essay gives an overview on researches in the field of laser ion acceleration, focusing on two types of targets. There are many types of targets while they can all be divided into targets that apply single ion or multiple ions. Mixed solid targets are proven efficient in accelerating heavy ions and generate high-quality ion beams with energy ...

First-principles molecular dynamics of liquid alkali metals based on the quantal hyper-netted chain theory [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 1995
The density-functional theory proves that an ion-electron mixture can be treated as a one-component liquid interacting only via a {\it pairwise} interaction in the evaluation of the ion-ion radial distribution function (RDF), and provides a set of integral equations: one is an integral equation for the ion-ion RDF and another for an effective ion-ion ...

Robust Collimation Control of Laser-Generated Ion Beam [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
The robustness of a structured collimation device is discussed for an intense-laser-produced ion beam. In this paper the ion beam collimation is realized by the solid structured collimation device, which produces the transverse electric field; the electric field contributes to reduce the ion beam transverse velocity and collimate the ion beam.

Deterministic delivery of externally cold and precisely positioned single molecular ions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We present the preparation and deterministic delivery of a selectable number of externally cold molecular ions. A laser cooled ensemble of Mg^+ ions subsequently confined in several linear Paul traps inter-connected via a quadrupole guide serves as a cold bath for a single or up to a few hundred molecular ions.

Ion permeation in potassium ion channels [PDF]

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section D Structural Biology, 2020
The study of ion channels dates back to the 1950s and the groundbreaking electrophysiology work of Hodgin and Huxley, who used giant squid axons to probe how action potentials in neurons were initiated and propagated. More recently, several experiments using different structural biology techniques and approaches have been conducted to try to understand
