Spatial distribution of ions in a linear octopole radio-frequency ion trap in the space-charge limit [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We have explored the spatial distribution of an ion cloud trapped in a linear octopole radio-frequency (rf) ion trap. The two-dimensional distribution of the column density of stored silver dimer cations was measured via photofragment-ion yields as a function of the position of the incident laser beam over the transverse cross section of the trap.

Ion transport through cell membrane channels [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2007
We discuss various models of ion transport through cell membrane channels. Recent experimental data shows that sizes of ion channels are compared to those of ions and that only few ions may be simultaneously in any single channel. Theoretical description of ion transport in such channels should therefore take into account interactions between ions and ...

Ion beam sputtering of silicon: Energy distributions of sputtered and scattered ions [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
The properties of sputtered and scattered ions are studied for ion beam sputtering of Si by bombardment with noble gas ions. The energy distributions in dependence on ion beam parameters (ion energy: 0.5 - 1 keV; ion species: Ne, Ar, Xe) and geometrical parameters (ion incidence angle, polar emission angle, scattering angle) are measured by means of ...

Laser Ion Acceleration Toward Future Ion Beam Cancer Therapy - Numerical Simulation Sudy- [PDF]

open access: yesPublished in LASER THERAPY, vol. 22, No. 2 (2013) pp. 103-114, 2013
Ion beam has been used in cancer treatment, and has a unique preferable feature to deposit its main energy inside a human body so that cancer cell could be killed by the ion beam. However, conventional ion accelerator tends to be huge in its size and its cost.

Nonlinear theory of the modulational instability at the ion-ion hybrid frequency and collapse of ion-ion hybrid waves in two-ion plasmas [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
We study the dynamics of two-dimensional nonlinear ion-ion hybrid waves propagating perpendicular to an external magnetic field in plasmas with two ion species. We derive nonlinear equations for the envelope of electrostatic potential at the ion-ion hybrid frequency to describe the interaction of ion-ion hybrid waves with low frequency acoustic-type ...

Ion Trap Geometry [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
This work aims to find ion trap geometry for a high-quality ion trap mass analyzer that minimizes mass shift and is easy to fabricate. The theoretical procedure of the ion trap mass shift evaluation is developed, which provides a quantitative criterion of the mass shift (ion ejection delay in comparison with ideal ion trap) for the correct comparison ...
