Metal-Enhanced Fluorescence for the Biologist's Cellular Imaging Toolkit: Design Principles and Recent Applications. [PDF]

open access: yesBioessays
Metal‐enhanced fluorescence (MEF) harnesses plasmonic interactions between fluorophores and metal nanostructures to increase excitation and/or radiative decay rates, yielding brighter, more photostable fluorescence signals for cellular imaging. This review highlights how nanoparticle size, shape, distance, and spectral overlap govern enhancement versus

ShcD adaptor protein drives invasion of triple negative breast cancer cells by aberrant activation of EGFR signaling. [PDF]

open access: yesMol Oncol
We identified adaptor protein ShcD as upregulated in triple‐negative breast cancer and found its expression to be correlated with reduced patient survival and increased invasion in cell models. Using a proteomic screen, we identified novel ShcD binding partners involved in EGFR signaling pathways.

Radar Diagnosis of the Thundercloud Electron Accelerator

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 127, Issue 11, 16 June 2022., 2022
Abstract Thunderstorm Ground Enhancements (TGEs) refer to correlated enhancements in surface electric field and gamma ray flux that are manifestations of electron runaway in the storm overhead. The electric field enhancements can be of positive or negative polarity.

Cutaneous epithelioid haemangiomas show somatic mutations in the mitogen‐activated protein kinase pathway

open access: yesBritish Journal of Dermatology, Volume 186, Issue 3, Page 553-563, March 2022., 2022
Summary Background Epithelioid haemangioma (EH) arising from the skin is a benign vascular tumour with marked inflammatory cell infiltration, which exhibits a high tendency to persist and frequently recurs after resection. So far, the underlying pathogenesis is largely elusive.

PIN‐mediated polar auxin transport regulations in plant tropic responses

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 232, Issue 2, Page 510-522, October 2021., 2021
Summary Tropisms, growth responses to environmental stimuli such as light or gravity, are spectacular examples of adaptive plant development. The plant hormone auxin serves as a major coordinative signal. The PIN auxin exporters, through their dynamic polar subcellular localizations, redirect auxin fluxes in response to environmental stimuli and the ...

Integrins meet complement: The evolutionary tip of an iceberg orchestrating metabolism and immunity

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, Volume 178, Issue 14, Page 2754-2770, July 2021., 2021
Immunologists have recently realized that there is more to the classic innate immune sensor systems than just mere protection against invading pathogens. It is becoming increasingly clear that such sensors, including the inflammasomes, toll‐like receptors, and the complement system, are heavily involved in the regulation of basic cell physiological ...
