As a fundamental plasma oscillation the compressional Alfvén waves (CAWs) are interesting for plasma scientists both academically and in applications for fusion plasmas. They are believed to be responsible for the ion cyclotron emission (ICE) observed in

Atmospheres and Spectra of Strongly Magnetized Neutron Stars II: Effect of Vacuum Polarization [PDF]
We study the effect of vacuum polarization on the atmosphere structure and radiation spectra of neutron stars with surface magnetic fields B=10^14-10^15 G, as appropriate for magnetars.

High-frequency Alfven waves in multi-ion coronal plasma : observational implications [PDF]
We investigate the effects of high-frequency (of order ion gyrofrequency) Alfvén and ion-cyclotron waves on ion emission lines by studying the dispersion of these waves in a multi-ion coronal plasma.

Perturbative analysis of two-temperature radiative shocks with multiple cooling processes [PDF]
The structure of the hot downstream region below a radiative accretion shock, such as that of an accreting compact object, may oscillate because of a global thermal instability.

Survey of the TS-ECE Discrepancy and recent investigations in ICRF heated plasmas at Alcator C-Mod
This paper reports on a new investigation of the long-standing, unresolved discrepancy between Thomson Scattering (TS) and Electron Cyclotron Emission (ECE) measurements of electron temperature in high temperature tokamak plasmas.

Velocity-space sensitivity and inversions of synthetic ion cyclotron emission
This paper introduces a new model to find the velocity-space location of energetic ions generating ion cyclotron emission (ICE) in plasmas. ICE is thought to be generated due to inverted gradients in the v⊥ direction of the velocity distribution function or due to anisotropies, i.e., strong gradients in the pitch direction.

Ion Cyclotron Emission Studies: Retrospects and Prospects
Ion cyclotron emission (ICE) studies emerged in part from the papers by A.B. Mikhailovskii published in the 1970s. Among the discussed subjects were electromagnetic compressional Alfvenic cyclotron instabilities with the linear growth rate ~ $\sqrt {n_\alpha /n_e } $
