Copper‐based Materials for Photo and Electrocatalytic Process: Advancing Renewable Energy and Environmental Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Cu‐based catalysts as a cornerstone in advancing sustainable energy technologies are fully reviewed in this manuscript, highlighting their potential in photo‐ and electrocatalysis. It includes metallic copper, copper oxides, copper sulfides, copper halide perovskites, copper‐based metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), and covalent organic frameworks (COFs),

Adsorption of phenol/tyrosol from aqueous solutions on macro-reticular aromatic and macro-porous polystyrene cross-linked with divinylbenzene polymeric resins [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The current work aims at separating by adsorption of low-molecular-weight organic compounds in a nanofiltration concentrate of the olive mill wastewaters. The experimental investigations on adsorption of phenol/tyrosol in single and binary systems were

Ion Exchange for Nutrient Recovery Coupled with Biosolids-Derived Biochar Pretreatment to Remove Micropollutants [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Wastewater, especially anaerobic treatment effluent, contains high ammonia nitrogen (NH4-N) and inorganic orthophosphate (PO4-P), which necessitate additional treatment to meet stringent discharge regulations.

Removal of disinfection by-product precursors by coagulation and an innovative suspended ion exchange process [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
This investigation aimed to compare the disinfection by-product formation potentials (DBPFPs) of three UK surface waters (1 upland reservoir and 2 lowland rivers) with differing characteristics treated by (a) a full scale conventional process and (b ...

Mechanically Tunable Bone Scaffolds: In Vivo Hardening of 3D‐Printed Calcium Phosphate/Polycaprolactone Inks

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A 3D bone scaffold with osteogenic properties and capable of hardening in vivo is developed. The scaffold is implanted in a ductile state, and a phase transformation of the ceramic induces the stiffening and strengthening of the scaffold in vivo. Abstract Calcium phosphate 3D printing has revolutionized customized bone grafting.

Purified Glycerine from Biodiesel Production as Biomass or Waste-Based Green Raw Material for the Production of Biochemicals

open access: yesEnergies, 2023
Glycerine (glycerol) is a polyol consisting of three carbon atoms bonded to hydroxyl groups. It is a by-product of the transesterification of triglycerides, such as animal fats, vegetable oils, or used cooking oils during the biodiesel production process.

Fate and impact of organics in an immersed membrane bioreactor applied to brine denitrification and ion exchange regeneration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The application of membrane bioreactors (MBRs) to brine denitrification for ion exchange regeneration has been studied. The developed culture was capable of complete brine denitrification at 50 gNaCl.l−1.

CO2 Reduction on Copper‐Nitrogen‐Doped Carbon Catalysts Tuned by Pulsed Potential Electrolysis: Effect of Pulse Potential

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that pulsed potential electrolysis significantly improves CO2 reduction performance on copper‐nitrogen doped carbon electrodes. The formation of cationic copper sites and metallic clusters as a function of applied intermittent potential leads to notable selectivity changes compared to potentiostatic reduction.

The removal of phenol and thiophenol from aqueous solution using an anion exchange resin with a quaternary ammonium group. Experiment and DFT calculations

open access: yesDesalination and Water Treatment
This work demonstrates that phenol and thiophenol, which are toxic to living organisms and the environment, can be effectively eliminated from water using selected commercially available ion exchange resins: IRA402, IRA900 and PWA5.

Coagulant recovery from water treatment residuals: a review of applicable technologies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Conventional water treatment consumes large quantities of coagulant and produces even greater volumes of sludge. Coagulant recovery (CR) presents an opportunity to reduce both the sludge quantities and the costs they incur, by regenerating and purifying ...
