Increased capabilities of the 30-cm diameter Hg ion thruster [PDF]

open access: yes
Some space flight missions require advanced ion thrusters which operate at conditions much different than those for which the baseline 30-cm Hg thruster was developed.

Stochastically Generated Digital Twins of 3D Solid‐State Electrolyte Architecture

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Digital Twins of random porous tape‐cast solid‐state battery architectures across µm to mm feature sizes from FIB‐SEM to X‐Ray µCT, respectively. Abstract Solid‐state lithium batteries (SSBs) have the potential to overcome conventional Li‐ion batteries in performance and safety.

Operation of the J-series thruster using inert gas [PDF]

open access: yes
Electron bombardment ion thrusters using inert gases are candidates for large space systems. The J-Series 30 cm diameter thruster, designed for operation up to 3 k-W with mercury, is at a state of technology readiness.

Anisotropic Shear Properties of Organic Interfaces in Bio‐composite Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A novel cantilever design enables direct probing of shear properties at single organic interfaces within biocomposite prismatic ultrastructures. By decoupling lateral and torsional shear responses, the method reveals isotropic behavior in Atrina vexillum and pronounced anisotropy in Unio pictorum.

Quantum-mechanical model of ion thruster for small spacecraft [PDF]

open access: yesОмский научный вестник: Серия "Авиационно-ракетное и энергетическое машиностроение"
The article presents a quantum mechanical model of an ion thruster. The basic equations describing the shape of the accelerated beam are considered. Detector plates demonstrating the interference pattern in thin films are presented.

Performance characteristics of ring-cusp thrusters with xenon propellant [PDF]

open access: yes
The performance characteristics and operating envelope of several 30-cm ring-cusp ion thrusters with xenon propellant were investigated. Results indicate a strong performance dependence on the discharge chamber boundary magnetic fields and resultant ...
