Modeling of a retarding potential analyzer and comparison with Express-A in-flight measurements
In-flight data from the retarding potential analyzers (RPAs) on the Russian geostationary telecommunication satellite Express-A #3 are used to validate electric thruster plume simulations.

Factors Affecting Ion Thruster’s Performance
In this project, we investigated how ion thrusters produce propulsion and how the design of ion thrusters affects the performance of the thruster. In the experiment, we build a high voltage power supply (0- 50 kV) and foil rings to produce ion wind. When considering the design of the thruster, we focus on three variables: the volume of the space, where

Cusped Magnetic Field Mercury Ion Thruster [PDF]
The importance of a uniform current density profile in the exhaust beam of an electrostatic ion thruster is discussed in terms of thrust level and accelerator system lifetime. A residence time approach is used to explain the nonuniform beam current density profile of the divergent magnetic field thruster.

Low energy Xe+ sputter yields for alumina, Hiperco 50, and boron nitride
Electric thruster materials are often subject to erosion during normal device operation. As a result of the ion sputtering process, surface properties can be affected or the underlying material may be exposed, possibly compromising performance and/or ...

Force probes for development and testing of different electric propulsion systems
Diagnostics with force probes in plumes of electric propulsion systems for spacecraft (thrusters) are presented. This contribution focuses on showing example measurements with force probes for the most common gridless ion thruster types.
