ELECTROSTATIC ION THRUSTERS - TOWARDS PREDICTIVE MODELING

open access: yesActa Polytechnica, 2015
For satellite missions, thrusters have to be qualified in large vacuum vessels to simulate space environment. One caveat of these experiments is the possible  modification of the beam properties due to the interaction of the energetic ions with the ...

Comparison and Evaluation of Numerical Techniques and Physico-Chemical Algorithms for the Simulation of an Iodine and Xenon Powered Ion Thrusters

open access: yesInternational Journal of Multiphysics, 2022
An electrostatic ion thruster, modelled on Busek’s BIT-3 [5], is simulated numerically using the open-source software “Starfish”. It is assumed that the thruster is in vacuum conditions propelling a CubeSat in low Earth orbit.

A new ion–ion plasma thruster with an annular geometry

open access: yesThe European Physical Journal D, 2017
The concept of ion-ion plasma thruster relies on a magnetic filter to create an electron-free plasma in the ion current extraction region. However, experiments and computer simulations show that a transverse magnetic field makes the discharge asymmetrical due to electron drift and instabilities in the region of strong magnetic field. The drift drives a

Ion Collection in Hall Thruster Plumes [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Propulsion and Power, 2006
HE Hall effect thruster’s (HETs) combination of high specific impulse, efficiency, and thrust density has increased its popularity for use as spacecraft propulsion. Currently, the widespread use of HETs is hindered by the limited understanding of plume interaction with the spacecraft.

Synthetic Strategy for mRNA Encapsulation and Gene Delivery with Nanoscale Metal‐Organic Frameworks

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This research utilizes the ZIF‐8 for the encapsulation and intracellular delivery of nucleic acids, specifically mRNA, for applications in gene delivery. Integrating PEI addresses the issue of mRNA leakage from ZIF‐8, resulting in the delivery and expression of green fluorescent protein (GFP) in vitro and firefly luciferase in vivo.

Enhancing Direct Solar Water Splitting via ALD of Multifunctional TiO2/Pt Nanoparticle Coatings With Engineered Interfaces to GaAs/GaInP Tandem Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Multifunctional atomic layer deposited coatings and interface treatments enhance direct solar water splitting on GaAs/GaInP tandem cells. Optimized TiO2/Pt nanoparticle bilayers ensure durability and catalytic efficiency with minimal optical losses, while H2 plasma pretreatments maximize photovoltage and interfacial charge extraction.

Substrate Engineering for Durable Omniphobic Liquid‐Like Surfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The significant yet less investigated role of substrates in determining the liquid‐repellency and mechanical durability of liquid‐like surfaces (LLSs) is explored. Thick and crack‐free sol–gel silica intermediary layers are developed that can smoothen substrate asperity roughness even at the micron scale, enabling omniphobic polydimethylsiloxane‐based ...
