Ion transport through confined ion channels in the presence of immobile charges [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. E 81, 031928 (2010), 2009
We study charge transport in an ionic solution in a confined nanoscale geometry in the presence of an externally applied electric field and immobile background charges. For a range of parameters, the ion current shows non-monotonic behavior as a function of the external ion concentration.

Low-excitation transport and separation of high-mass-ratio mixed-species ion chains [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Research, 2023
We demonstrate low-excitation transport and separation of two-ion crystals consisting of one ^{9}Be^{+} and one ^{40}Ca^{+} ion, with a high mass ratio of 4.4.

Quantitative description of ion transport via plasma membrane of yeast and small cells [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2015
Modelling of ion transport via plasma membrane needs identification and quantitative understanding of the involved processes. Brief characterisation of main ion transport systems of a yeast cell (Pma1, Ena1, TOK1, Nha1, Trk1, Trk2, non-selective cation ...

Coherent Diabatic Ion Transport and Separation in a Multi-Zone Trap Array [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We investigate the motional dynamics of single and multiple ions during transport between and separation into spatially distinct locations in a multi-zone linear Paul trap. A single 9Be+ ion in a 2 MHz harmonic well located in one zone was laser-cooled to near its ground state of motion and transported 370 micrometers by moving the well to another zone.

A physical derivation of high-flux ion transport in biological channel via quantum ion coherence [PDF]

open access: yesNature Communications
Biological ion channels usually conduct the high-flux transport of 107 ~ 108 ions·s− 1; however, the underlying mechanism is still lacking. Here, by applying the KcsA potassium channel as a typical example, and performing multitimescale molecular ...

Concentration Polarization of High Concentration Solution in Sub-nm Nanopore [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2021
The behavior of ion transport through the sub-nm nanopores on the film is is different from the behavior of bulk behavior. Many intriguing phenomena in ionic transport are the key to the design and fabrication of solid-state nanofluidic devices. However,

Ion Channels and Transporters in Autophagy [PDF]

open access: yesAutophagy, 2021
Ion exchange between intracellular and extracellular spaces is the basic mechanism for controlling cell metabolism and signal transduction. This process is mediated by ion channels and transporters on the plasma membrane, or intracellular membranes that surround various organelles, in response to environmental stimuli.
