On-line trapping of ions injected into a quadrupole ion trap

Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics, 1981
The use of a quadrupole trap to catch ions in flight was investigated numerically. The results show that storage is possible for injection into a trap operated in the radio-frequency and the combined modes, but not in the Penning mode.

Quadrupole ion traps

Mass Spectrometry Reviews, 2009
AbstractThe extraordinary story of the three‐dimensional radiofrequency quadrupole ion trap, accompanied by a seemingly unintelligible theoretical treatment, is told in some detail because of the quite considerable degree of commercial success that quadrupole technology has achieved.

Ion trapping and clearing

1994
Ion trapping in the electron beams of future factories is one of the major issues to be addressed. After a brief review of the adverse effects of neutralization in particle storage rings, the basic topics of ion production by ionization of the residual gas are recalled: ion production rate, natural clearing rates, ion kinematics, and conditions of ...

Extraction of trapped ions from the Tokyo electron beam ion trap

Physica Scripta, 1997
A beam line for transporting highly charged ions extracted from the Tokyo Electron Beam Ion Trap is being constructed in order to study ion-surface interactions and to inject into secondary ion traps for atomic physics experiments. A basic idea for the design and a computer modeling for the extraction system are described.

The effect of ion trap temperature on the dissociation of peptide ions in a quadrupole ion trap

International Journal of Mass Spectrometry, 2011
Abstract Thermally-assisted collision-induced dissociation can substantially increase the amount of dissociation in quadrupole ion trap mass spectrometer experiments. The experiments discussed here were performed to assess the effect on dissociation pathways as the bath gas temperature is increased in thermally-assisted collision-induced dissociation

Ion traps

2004
Abstract In a trap operating with a voltage of 10 = 500 V, singly-charged ions have a maximum ‘binding’ energy of order 500eV.3 This trap depth corresponds to the kinetic energy at a temperature of 6 x 106 K. This is more than enough to trap ions, even if the ions do receive a large recoil kick during the ionization process-to load an

Hydrolysis of thioesters in an ion trap

Rapid Communications in Mass Spectrometry, 2008
Abstract The alkenyldiarylmethanes are a class of non‐nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors that are currently being developed as potential antivirals for the treatment of HIV infection and AIDS. As part of our continuing investigations on the alkenyldiarylmethanes, a series of thioester analogues were ...

Ion Traps

1995
Abstract The author provides, in nine chapters, a compact and up-to-date coverage of the entire range of applications of the two most important ion traps: the Paul('radiofrequency') trap and the Penning('dc) trap. The book begins with full details of the ion confinement principles of both these traps; this is followed by a ...
