Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Identity and identification of Trogulus banaticus (Opiliones: Trogulidae) : a neglected species in the Northern Balkans [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Trogulus banaticus Avram, 1971 is characterised and recorded as new for Slovenia. This species was previously mistaken for T. coriziformis C. L. Koch, 1839 and T. graecus Dahl, 1903 which were later rejected from the Slovenian fauna. T.

β‐TrCP overexpression enhances cisplatin sensitivity by depleting BRCA1

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Low levels of β‐TrCP (Panel A) allow the accumulation of BRCA1 and CtIP, which facilitate the repair of cisplatin‐induced DNA damage via homologous recombination (HR) and promote tumor cell survival. In contrast, high β‐TrCP expression (Panel B) leads to BRCA1 and CtIP degradation, impairing HR repair, resulting in persistent DNA damage and apoptosis ...

Ion channels [PDF]

open access: yesThorax, 2013
Effective therapies for the 10% of patients with 'severe' asthma remain elusive, while other pulmonary diseases such as idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis are currently untreatable. Many cellular processes rely heavily on signals delivered by changes in the intracellular-free Ca(2+) concentration, in many cases relying on Ca(2+) influx from the ...

A synthetic benzoxazine dimer derivative targets c‐Myc to inhibit colorectal cancer progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Benzoxazine dimer derivatives bind to the bHLH‐LZ region of c‐Myc, disrupting c‐Myc/MAX complexes, which are evaluated from SAR analysis. This increases ubiquitination and reduces cellular c‐Myc. Impairing DNA repair mechanisms is shown through proteomic analysis.

Patient‐specific pharmacogenomics demonstrates xCT as predictive therapeutic target in colon cancer with possible implications in tumor connectivity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study integrates transcriptomic profiling of matched tumor and healthy tissues from 32 colorectal cancer patients with functional validation in patient‐derived organoids, revealing dysregulated metabolic programs driven by overexpressed xCT (SLC7A11) and SLC3A2, identifying an oncogenic cystine/glutamate transporter signature linked to ...

Addenda and omissions to the catalogue and checklist of the Cerambycidae and Disteniidae (Coleoptera) of the Western hemisphere [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
The Catalogue (Monne, 1993-1994) and Checklist (Monne and Giesbert, 1995) of the Cerambycidae and Disteniidae of the Western Hemisphere represents a necessary, and valuable tool since recompilation of Blackwelder (1946) was made. Species with references (
