Low‐Angle Grain Boundaries and Re‐Segregation in Single‐Crystalline Ni‐Base Superalloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates that Re‐segregation at low‐angle grain boundaries (LAGBs) in Ni‐base superalloys is influenced by misorientation angle. Advanced microscopy and atom probe tomography reveal that higher misorientation angles increases Re‐segregation.

Fatigue Crack Initiation and Growth in Nanocrystalline Ni at Multiple Length‐Scales

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Overview of miniaturized in situ SEM fatigue setup and resultant fatigue crack growth data for nanocrystalline Ni. The presented study focuses on the analysis of fatigue crack growth rate (FCGR) in focused ion beam‐notched microcantilevers prepared from nanocrystalline (NC) Ni as a model material.

Continuous flow homogeneous catalysis using ionic liquid/supercritical fluid biphasic systems

open access: yes, 2010
Ionic liquid/scCO₂ biphasic systems have been studied as a possible solution to the main problems concerning homogeneous catalysis reactions such as, the product/catalyst separation, the catalyst retention in the reaction medium and the use of organic

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.

Fe-containing magnetic ionic liquid as an effective catalyst for the glycolysis of poly(ethylene terephthalate)

open access: yes, 2010
The depolymerization of poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) in ethylene glycol could be catalyzed by imidazolium-based Fe-containing ionic liquid, 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrachloroferrate ([bmim]FeCl(4)).

Enhancing Bubble Removal in Geometry‐Optimized Electrodes

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
3D‐printed lattice electrodes outperform stochastic foams in alkaline water electrolysis despite 20%–25% lower surface area. Straight flow channels generate Venturi‐like bubble entrainment, suppressing gas accumulation that renders foam interiors electrochemically inactive.

Microstructure Reconstruction in Battery Electrodes Using Machine Learning Based on Low‐Voltage Focused Ion Beam–Scanning Electron Microscopy Tomography Images

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐voltage FIB‐SEM tomography combined with a image preprocessing pipeline improves phase contrast and enables reliable machine‐learning segmentation of conductive networks in lithium‐ion battery electrodes. Structural descriptors are extracted from segmented images, done semimanually and automated, and compared.

Desulfurization of Diesel Fuel by Extraction with Lewis-Acidic Ionic Liquid

open access: yes, 2009
Ionic liquids were found to be highly selective for the extractive removal of aromatic sulfur compounds from fuels at room temperature. The efficiency of ionic liquids for the removal of aromatic sulfur compounds is dependent on the properties and ...

Compression of tetrahedrally bonded SiO2 liquid and silicate liquid‐crystal density inversion

open access: yes, 1989
We have investigated the response to pressure of liquid SiO2 by performing a quantitatively realistic Monte Carlo simulation. The model liquid was restricted to at most four‐fold Si‐O coordination by the effective imposition of an infinite potential ...
