Photorheological Ionic Liquids

The Journal of Physical Chemistry B, 2015
Two room temperature ionic liquids (ILs) bearing coumarin and p-hydroxycinnamic acid moieties are synthesized, and their photochemistry is studied in solution and neat conditions. Irradiation at absorption maxima leads to photochemical transformations and results in changes of their rheological properties which are evaluated by rotational rheometry ...

Low Toxic Ionic Liquids, Liquid Catanionics, and Ionic Liquid Microemulsions

Journal of Dispersion Science and Technology, 2011
In the future the demand of sustainable and low toxic surfactants and solvents will constantly increase. In this article, we present some new approaches to meet these requirements. Whereas ionic liquids are often based on imidazolium ions, we will show that there are also much less toxic ones, especially with choline as cation.

Electrowetting of Ionic Liquids

Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2006
We have successfully demonstrated that imidazolium- and pyrrolidinium-based commercial room-temperature ionic liquids can electrowet (with a dc voltage) a smooth fluoropolymer (Teflon AF1600) surface. Qualitatively, the process is analogous to the electrowetting of aqueous electrolyte solutions: the contact angle versus voltage curve has a parabolic ...

Viscosity of Ionic Liquid–Ionic Liquid Mixtures

Journal of Chemical & Engineering Data, 2017
The viscosities of 23 ionic liquid (IL)–IL mixtures were measured at multiple temperatures and mole fractions. Many of the mixtures involved a dialkylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide ([Tf2N]) IL paired with a tetra-alkylphosphonium IL containing an aprotic heterocyclic anion (AHA).

Surface tension of ionic liquids and ionic liquid solutions

Chem. Soc. Rev., 2012
Some of the most active scientific research fronts of the past decade are centered on ionic liquids. These fluids present characteristic surface behavior and distinctive trends of their surface tension versus temperature. One way to explore and understand their unique nature is to study their surface properties.

Ionic liquid “buffers”—pH control in ionic liquid systems

Chemical Communications, 2010
We describe hydrated ionic liquids which have an intrinsic proton buffering action and hence an ability to control proton activity in an ionic medium.

Ionic Liquids

Clean Technologies and Environmental Policy, 1999
Ionic liquids are receiving an upsurge of interest as green solvents; primarily as replacements for conventional media in chemical processes. This review presents an overview of the chemistry that has been developed utilising ionic liquids as either catalyst and/or solvent, with particular emphasis on processes that have been taken beyond the pre ...
