The crystal structure of the Borrelia burgdorferi nicotinamidase BBE22 resolves a long‐standing annotation error

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The crystal structure of Borrelia burgdorferi nicotinamidase (PncA/BBE22) reveals the correct full‐length protein initiated from a non‐canonical AUU start codon. The structure validates previous biochemical findings and resolves a long‐standing annotation error, demonstrating that the truncated database sequence is structurally incompatible with the ...

Hyperactive ice‐binding proteins stabilize cell membranes and improve resistance to dehydration stress in Caenorhabditis elegans

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
TisIBP8, a fungal‐derived hyperactive ice‐binding protein, helps Caenorhabditis elegans survive dehydration. It localizes near cell membranes, reduces cell damage, and helps maintain membrane structure during drying. These results suggest that ice‐binding proteins can protect cells from dehydration stress as well as freezing stress.

Angstrom science: Exploring aggregates from a new viewpoint

open access: yesGreen Energy & Environment, 2016
A small aggregate is composed of several or tens of molecules or ions, with at least one dimension in the range from a few to dozens of angstroms. Here, we named such aggregate system as Angstrom Aggregates (AA).

Ionic liquids–an Overview [PDF]

open access: yesScience Progress, 2011
A virtually unprecedented exponential burst of activity resulted following the publication, in 1998, of an article by Michael Freeman (Freemantle, M. Chemical & Engineering News, 1998, March 30, 32), which speculated on the role and contribution that ionic liquids (ILs) might make in the future on the development of clean technology.

Application of Ionic Liquids for Chemical Demulsification: A Review

open access: yes, 2020
In recent years, ionic liquids have received increasing interests as an effective demulsifier due to their characteristics of non-flammability, thermal stability, recyclability, and low vapor pressure.

2-Ethylhexylsulfate Anion-based Surface-Active Ionic Liquids (SAILs) as Temperature Persistent Electrolytes for Supercapacitors

open access: yes, 2022
We report on a comparative study of three novel non-halogenated surface-active ionic liquids (SAILs), which contain a surface-active anion, 2-ethylhexyl sulfate ([EHS]−), and phosphonium or imidazolium cations: tetrabutylphosphonium ([P4,4,4,4 ...

Molecular characterization of covRS mutations in M1UK Streptococcus pyogenes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Group A Streptococcus (GAS) acquires covRS mutations driving a hypervirulent bacterial state, frequently associated with invasive disease‐like necrotizing fasciitis. We demonstrate that the newly emerged M1UK GAS lineage can also acquire these mutations.

Hydrogenation reactions in ionic liquids: Finding solutions for tomorrow's world

open access: yes
Ionic liquids are excellent solvents for conducting biphasic hydrogenation reactions offering many advantages over both related homogeneous processes and biphasic reactions in other alternative solvents.
