Ambient ionization mass spectrometry: real-time, proximal sample processing and ionization

, 2017
The definition of ambient ionization is updated from “no sample preparation” to sample preparation proximal and in real time with the ionization and analysis step.

Unraveling the mechanism of electrospray ionization.

Analytical Chemistry, 2013
Electrospray ionization (ESI) generates intact gas-phase ions from analytes in solution for mass spectrometric investigations. ESI can proceed via different mechanisms.

Photo-ionization of Helium and Ionized Lithium

Proceedings of the Physical Society, 1963
The work of Stewart and Wilkinson in 1960 on the photo-ionization of helium using six-parameter Hylleraas ground state and Hartree-Fock continuum wave functions has been entended to higher energies. Agreement to within 10% is obtained with the recent measurements of Baker, Bedo and Tomboulian over the spectral range 504-180 A.

Total ionization and ionization fluctuations in helium

Physics Letters A, 1969
The mean energy for ion production W, the Fano factor F and some other quantities inherent to electron ionization cascades in helium are computed with semi-empirical cross sections for excitation and ionization. W = 46 eV and F = 0.21 at electron energy of 2.5 keV.

Total Cross Sections for Ionization and Attachment in Gases by Electron Impact. I. Positive Ionization

, 1965
The total ionization cross sections of He, Ne, Ar, Kr, Xe, H2, D2, N2, O2, CO, NO, CO2, N2O, and CH4 have been measured from threshold to 1000 eV in a total ionization tube. More limited measurements were performed in C2H4 and SF6.

Electrospray ionization–principles and practice

, 1990
Chemistry has its origins as a quantitative science in the careful weighing of products and reactants by Lavoisier and his followers beginning some 200 years ago. Ever since then, the constantly evolving gravimetric balance has been a faithful servant of

Keldysh theory of strong field ionization: history, applications, difficulties and perspectives

, 2014
The history and current status of the Keldysh theory of strong field ionization are reviewed. The focus is on the fundamentals of the theory, its most important applications and those aspects which still raise difficulties and remain under discussion ...

Studying noncovalent protein complexes by electrospray ionization mass spectrometry.

Mass spectrometry reviews (Print), 1997
Electrospray ionization mass spectrometry has been used to study protein interactions driven by noncovalent forces. The gentleness of the electrospray ionization process allows intact protein complexes to be directly detected by mass spectrometry ...

Negative electrospray ionization via deprotonation: predicting the ionization efficiency.

Analytical Chemistry, 2014
Electrospray ionization (ESI) in the negative ion mode has received less attention in fundamental studies than the positive ion electrospray ionization. In this paper, we study the efficiency of negative ion formation in the ESI source via deprotonation ...
