Effect and suppression of parasitic surface damage in neutron irradiated CMOS Monolithic Active Pixel Sensors [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
CMOS Monolithic Active Pixel Sensors (MAPS) were chosen as sensor technology for the vertex detectors of STAR, CBM and the upgraded ALICE-ITS. They also constitute a valuable option for tracking devices at future e+e- colliders. Those applications require a substantial tolerance to both, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation.

Monte Carlo modeling of radiation dose from radiation therapy with superficial x‐rays

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Introduction Superficial x‐rays (50–100 kVp) are used for treating non‐melanoma skin cancer and intraoperative radiation therapy (IORT). At these energies, the photoelectric effect significantly increases absorbed dose to bone compared to soft tissue.

Portrait of inflammatory response to ionizing radiation treatment

open access: yesJournal of Inflammation, 2015
Ionizing radiation (IR) activates both pro-and anti-proliferative signal pathways producing an imbalance in cell fate decision. IR is able to regulate several genes and factors involved in cell-cycle progression, survival and/or cell death, DNA repair ...

Dosimetric effect of silicone‐based gel on skin surface during volumetric modulated arc therapy for breast cancer

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose This study aims to quantify and compare the dosimetric effects of varying thicknesses of StrataXRT, a silicone‐based gel, and other topical agents on the skin surface during volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) for breast cancer.

The combustion characteristics and stable carbon isotopic compositions of irradiated organic matter: implications for terrestrial and extraterrestrial sample analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Exposure to ionizing radiation causes the mean combustion temperature of naturally occurring, solid, terrestrial organic matter, derived from the radiation-induced polymerization of methane, to ...

Spatial methods for event reconstruction in CLEAN

open access: yes, 2003
In CLEAN (Cryogenic Low Energy Astrophysics with Noble gases), a proposed neutrino and dark matter detector, background discrimination is possible if one can determine the location of an ionizing radiation event with high accuracy.
