Internet access to ionosondes

Journal of Atmospheric and Solar-Terrestrial Physics, 1999
Abstract Connecting ionosondes to the Internet gives easy access to real-time information on ionospheric conditions. Some of the ionosonde sites provide just the ionogram displays, others give in addition the scaled ionospheric characteristics directly usable for frequency management and HF channel assessment.

Power Amplifier For Short-Pulse Ionosonde

2019 Russian Open Conference on Radio Wave Propagation (RWP), 2019
© 2019 IEEE. Vertical sounding is a fairly informative method for studying the ionosphere at a relatively small transmitted power. Ones of the incompletely studied phenomena in the F layer are travelling ionospheric disturbances (TIDs). Especially poorly studied is their mid-latitude and medium-scale variety, or MSTIDs, which needs more frequent ...

Global ionosonde and GPS radio occultation sporadic-E intensity and height comparison

, 2020
A multi-year global comparison between mid-latitude and equatorial sporadic-E ( E s ) height and intensity derived from COSMIC GPS radio occultation (GPS-RO) data and blanketing E frequency (fbEs) from ground-based Digisonde measurements is performed ...

A Novel Radar Waveform for Monostatic Ionosonde

IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Letters, 2011
Monostatic radar, whether using interpulse or intrapulse coded pulse trains, will suffer from the blind zones caused by eclipsing. This letter proposes a novel biphase interpulse coded radar waveform using diverse Pulse Repetition Intervals (PRIs) instead of a consistent PRI within each coherent processing interval (CPI). This waveform can achieve long

Autoscala: an aid for different ionosondes

Acta Geophysica, 2009
Autoscala is a software to automatically scale ionospheric characteristics from an ionogram. Initially it was only applied to the ionograms recorded by the AIS-INGV ionosondes installed at Rome and Gibilmanna (Italy), and Tucuman (Argentina), that are not able to record the polarization of the received echo.

Special facilities of chirp ionosonde

2009 IEEE International Conference on Microwaves, Communications, Antennas and Electronics Systems, 2009
In this work describe some new functional possibilities of chirp ionosonde in addition to building of oblique sounding ionograms. It is separation of signal and noise on output of receiver, detection of spectrum concentrate disturbance, rejection of spectrum concentrate disturbances and cleaning ionograms from strange signals, measuring characteristics

An Improved Ionosonde‐Based Parameter to Assess Sporadic E Layer Intensities: A Simple Idea and an Algorithm

Journal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, 2019
In the long era of sporadic E layer (Es) ionosonde research, the ordinary wave critical frequency foEs is used as a measure of Es layer occurrence and intensity.

Digitizing the conventional ionosonde

Radio Science, 1979
This paper discusses the accuracy limitations of the conventional ionosonde and techniques which may be used to improve it and at the same time reduce analysis effort. Add‐on digital equipment is described which may easily be attached to any ionosonde to improve its performance at a low cost.

The applicability of advanced ionosondes to the IRI

Advances in Space Research, 2003
Abstract The ionosonde has evolved from the early analog film-recording depictor of the ionosphere, into a precision diagnositic instrument. Contemporary monitoring ionosondes occupy an intermediate niche in this evolution. Some of these present digital ionogram images to interpretation experts who use the conveniences of digital data presentation to

Ionosonde observations of pulsating auroras

Canadian Journal of Physics, 1981
An "Australian" type ionosonde with modifications to record virtual height versus time in addition to regular ionograms was used for 23 nights during the "pulsating aurora campaign". Height variations associated with pulsating auroras were noted on 14 nights.
