Introducing a disturbance ionosphere index

Radio Science, 2012
Although ionospheric perturbations such as traveling ionospheric disturbances have a strong impact on Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) and other space‐based radio systems, the description of individual perturbations is difficult. To overcome this problem, it is suggested to use a disturbance ionosphere index (DIX) that describes the ...

The ionospheric disturbance dynamo

Journal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, 1980
A numerical simulation study of the thermospheric winds produced by auroral heating during magnetic storms, and of their global dynamo effects, establishes the main features of the ionospheric disturbance dynamo. Driven by auroral heating, a Hadley cell is created with equatorward winds blowing above about 120 km at mid‐latitudes.

Prestorm ionospheric disturbances: Precursors or Q-disturbances?

Advances in Space Research, 2022
Abstract The problem of disturbances in the parameters of the F2 layer and upper ionosphere during the days preceding onset of a magnetic storm is known already for many decades. Many publications have been dedicated to analysis of these disturbances both in the critical frequency and height of the F2 layer and in the total electron content.

Analysis of ionospheric models during ionospheric disturbances

2007 Asia-Pacific Conference on Applied Electromagnetics, 2007
This paper describes an analysis of ionospheric models compared with real data during the occurrence of travelling ionospheric disturbances. GPS data was taken from Parit Raja Station (1deg 52' N, 103deg 06' E) in Southern Malaysia. Comparison was made from collected data during the geomagnetic quiet and storm days. Ionospheric models i.e.

On ionospheric disturbances in relation to geomagnetic disturbances

Geofisica pura e applicata, 1958
Disturbances in the critical frequency of theF2-region of the ionosphere at Watheroo on international magnetically disturbed days are analyzed together with simultaneous geomagnetic data at the same station. The results show that the daily average disturbanceDm (foF2) becomes negative or positive according as the maximum of the disturbance daily ...

Travelling Disturbances in the Ionosphere

Nature, 1953
MEASUREMENTS of the horizontal velocity of travelling disturbances in the F2 region of the ionosphere have been made in this department over the past three years, using the method described by Munro1. Constant-frequency pulse transmitters were set up at the base station in the Physics Department of the University of Western Australia, and at two other ...
