Cosmic Radiation Dose‐Rates for Civil Aviation in the Middle East: Vertical Structure, Solar Modulation, and Comparison With Models

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 131, Issue 17, 16 September 2026.
Abstract High‐altitude balloon measurements were conducted over southern Israel (30°35′N, 34°45′E; 850 m a.s.l., geomagnetic rigidity cutoff 10.3 GV) to characterize the vertical profiles of atmospheric ionization and radiation up to ∼35 km. Six balloon launches between October 2014 and August 2016 recorded the variability of atmospheric ionization ...

Insights into Conjugate Hemispheric Ionospheric Disturbances Associated with the Beirut Port Explosion on 4 August 2020 Using Multi Low-Earth-Orbit Satellites

open access: yesRemote Sensing
In this study, we analysed remote sensing data collected during the Beirut port explosion on 4 August 2020 at 15.08 UT. For this purpose, we selected three Low-Earth-Orbit (LEO) satellite missions that passed near the Beirut port explosion site ...

Combinational frequencies of HF doppler radar signals in the PC1 geomagnetic pulsation range

open access: yesВісник Харківського національногоуніверситету імені В.Н. Каразіна. Серія: Радіофізика та електроніка, 2020
Urgency. The urgency of this work is determined by the necessity of studying MHD waves originating from various sources within the Earth–atmosphere–ionosphere– magnetosphere system and arriving at ionospheric heights. The object of research.

Shining light on the aurora's contributions to people: A qualitative study of the aurora borealis in Greenland

open access: yesPeople and Nature, Volume 8, Issue 9, Page 3122-3144, September 2026.
Abstract The aurora borealis (northern lights) is an abiotic natural phenomenon that contributes to human well‐being. There is currently a significant research gap in primary qualitative valuation of the aurora's links to people. This exploratory qualitative study applies the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES ...

Electromagnetic conjugacy of ionospheric disturbances after the 2022 Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha’apai volcanic eruption as seen in GNSS-TEC and SuperDARN Hokkaido pair of radars observations

open access: yesEarth, Planets and Space, 2022
To elucidate the characteristics of electromagnetic conjugacy of traveling ionospheric disturbances just after the 15 January 2022 Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha’apai volcanic eruption, we analyze Global Navigation Satellite System-total electron content data and ...

Ionospheric Disturbances Triggered by China's Long March 2D Rocket

open access: yesIEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing, 2023
Using the data of 382 ground global navigation satellite system (GNSS) network stations in Western China, we studied and analyzed the ionospheric disturbances triggered by the “Long March” 2D rocket launch in Jiuquan, China on December 3 ...

Numerical Investigations of Low‐Latitude Ground Magnetic Fields Due To Cavity Mode Oscillations

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, Volume 131, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract Pi2 oscillations are known to be associated with cavity mode oscillations (CMOs) in the inner magnetosphere at low latitudes. CMOs can also be excited by interplanetary shocks on the dayside. We present results from a global linear MHD wave model in spherical coordinates that allows us to analyze these waves at equatorial latitudes.

Ionospheric disturbances in Japan detected by ALOS-2 subband azimuth offset

open access: yesEarth, Planets and Space
Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) and synthetic aperture radar (SAR) are valuable tools for observing ionospheric disturbances. While GNSS provides continuous temporal data with limited spatial resolution, SAR offers high-resolution spatial ...

The Daily Atmospheric Ionospheric Limb Imager (DAILI) CubeSat Experiment

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, Volume 131, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract The Daily Atmospheric Ionospheric Limb Imager (DAILI) (Daily Atmospheric and Ionospheric Limb Imager) mission utilized a 6U CubeSat, deployed at about 410 km altitude in a 51‐degree orbit, to make simultaneous daytime limb measurements in two colors; at 630 nm to measure the OI (630 nm) redline and at 765 nm to measure the O2 ${\mathrm{O}}_{2}$

On the Effects of the Solar Wind Structure in the Global Distribution of dBH/dt ${\text{dB}}_{H}/\text{dt}$ Spikes During Geomagnetic Storms

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, Volume 131, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract Variations in the solar wind, particularly those associated with interplanetary coronal mass ejections (ICMEs) and high‐speed streams (HSSs), drive geomagnetic disturbances that produce rapid changes in the ground magnetic field. These variations, commonly quantified by the time derivative of the horizontal magnetic field dBH/dt $\left({\text ...
