Positive Ion Transmission Mode Ion/Ion Reactions in a Hybrid Linear Ion Trap

Analytical Chemistry, 2004
A triple quadrupole mass spectrometer capable of ion trapping experiments has been adapted for ion/ion reaction studies. The instrument is based on a commercially available linear ion trap (LIT) tandem mass spectrometer (i.e., an MDS SCIEX 2000 Q TRAP) that has been modified by mounting an atmospheric sampling glow discharge ionization (ASGDI) source ...

Ion—Ion Recombination

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1964
The three-body recombination rate for molecular ions is calculated at low density, including the effect of dissociative collisions on the molecular complex initially formed by the recombination process. The effect of an increase in ionic mass due to the attachment of neutral molecules to the ion is also determined. The recombination rate is found to be

Ion-Ion Collisions

1986
Let us start by asking three questions. What types of ion-ion reaction have been studied? Why are these studies worthwhile? Where can more detailed information be found?

Electron–Ion and Ion–Ion Dissociative Recombination of Oxygen. II. Ion–Ion Recombination

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1968
The rate coefficient and the thermal cross section for the oxygen ion–ion dissociative recombination are calculated using the semiclassical formalism. The motion of the heavy particles (positive and negative ions) in their mutual Coulomb field is treated classically. At certain ranges of the ion–ion separation (determined from energy conservation), the

Ion-ion recombination at high ion density

Journal of Physics B: Atomic and Molecular Physics, 1985
By appeal to a Thomson-style treatment of recombination, it is shown that the rate for recombination of ions generated with uniform frequency within a reaction volume is a factor of 9/4 times greater than the rate for recombination of ions which approach each other from infinite separation.

Ion-Ion Collisions

2003
Ion-ion collisions belong to the fundamental processes in all types of plasmas in astrophysical objects (e.g. the earth’s ionoshpere or the solar corona) as well as in laboratory discharges (for example in thermonuclear fusion). The knowledge of cross sections for ion-ion collision processes is therefore essential for the modeling of these plasmas.

Ion-Ion Collisions and Ion Storage Rings

Physica Scripta, 1988
Improved understanding of fundamental ion-ion interactions is expected to emerge from research carried out with ion storage rings. In this short survey the significant advantages and unique features that make stored ions useful targets for collision experiments are reviewed and discussed.
