Content analysis of TikTok videos about tick prevention methods for dogs and cats

open access: yesVeterinary Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Social media is a major source of pet health information. On platforms such as TikTok, algorithm‐driven recommendations may expose users to health‐related content even without active searching. This study described tick prevention videos on TikTok.

The Building That Teaches: Exploring Augmented Reality Affordances in Academic Incubators

open access: yesJournal of Interior Design, EarlyView., 2022
ABSTRACT Efforts to enhance the experience of interior environments have led to experimentation with augmented reality (AR) technology to encourage users to participate in the built space using their mobile devices. To investigate the role of AR technologies in interior design experiences, we highlight the interdisciplinary design of a mobile AR ...

A Distributed Execution Pipeline for Clustering Trajectories Based on a Fuzzy Similarity Relation

open access: yesAlgorithms, 2019
The proliferation of indoor and outdoor tracking devices has led to a vast amount of spatial data. Each object can be described by several trajectories that, once analysed, can yield to significant knowledge. In particular, pattern analysis by clustering

Enabling pandemic‐resilient healthcare: Narrowband Internet of Things and edge intelligence for real‐time monitoring

open access: yesCAAI Transactions on Intelligence Technology, EarlyView.
Abstract The Internet of Things (IoT) in deploying robotic sprayers for pandemic‐associated disinfection and monitoring has garnered significant attention in recent research. The authors introduce a novel architectural framework designed to interconnect smart monitoring robotic devices within healthcare facilities using narrowband Internet of Things ...

Mean temperature determines whether winter variability accelerates or buffers energy loss

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, EarlyView.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Winter survival in dormant animals depends on conserving finite energy reserves, yet winter temperatures fluctuate around shifting means. In ectotherms, metabolic rate increases exponentially with temperature, so thermal variability is expected to accelerate energy loss,

Cryptic variation within and among islands in the ultraviolet reflectance of lizard throat coloration

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
Identifying the existence of ‘cryptic’ morphs is critical in animal ecology for providing a basis for accurately testing links between phenotype and environment. This study identifies the existence of previously undocumented variation in UV reflectance in Aegean wall lizards that likely has novel behavioural and evolutionary implications within this ...

Revisiting the Political Economy of Agriculture in 21st Century Food Systems

open access: yesJournal of Agricultural Economics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In 1932, Joseph Duncan argued in the Journal of Agricultural Economics that agricultural economists should engage more explicitly with politics. Nearly a century later, the political economy of food and agriculture has expanded in both scope and complexity.

Species Habitat Specificity Impacts the Thermosensitivity of Evaporative Water Loss in Sympatric Rattlesnakes

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
Temperature differentially impacts evaporative water loss in sympatric congeners (genus Crotalus). At the highest temperature the species with the broadest distribution in terms of range and habitat variability had significantly higher evaporative water loss than other species.
