Harnessing Intellectual Property for Development: Some Thoughts on an Appropriate Theoretical Framework [PDF]

open access: yesPotchefstroom Electronic Law Journal, 2013
This paper considers how an appropriate theoretical framework for Intellectual Property may be constructed. Such a framework would be the lens through which contested IP issues may be resolved and upon which national IP policy and legislation might be ...

From secured logic to IP protection

open access: yesMicroprocessors and Microsystems, 2016
Design and reuse has become a very common practice in the electronics design industry. IP cores are easily sold by designers to system integrators. However, several cases of counterfeiting and illegal copying have been reported and design protection techniques have been developed in response.

Erythropoietin modulates hepatic inflammation, glucose homeostasis, and soluble epoxide hydrolase and epoxides in high‐fat diet‐induced obese mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Erythropoietin administration suppresses hepatic soluble epoxide hydrolase (sEH) expression, leading to increased CYP‐derived epoxides. This is associated with a shift in hepatic macrophage polarization characterized by reduced M1 markers and increased M2 markers, along with reduced hepatic inflammation, suppressed hepatic lipogenesis, and attenuated ...

The Role of Intellectual Property in Developing a Knowledge-Based Society

open access: yesManagement, 2014
A long-time dominant position of protective features in the intellectual property (IP) rights has been neutralized by their commercializing possibilities. Patents, trademarks and other forms of IP are increasingly being seen as trading assets rather than

The COX-2/PGI2 receptor axis plays an obligatory role in mediating the cardioprotection conferred by the late phase of ischemic preconditioning. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Pharmacologic studies with cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitors suggest that the late phase of ischemic preconditioning (PC) is mediated by COX-2.

Evaluation of the protective efficiency of an autogenous Vibrio anguillarum vaccine in lumpfish (Cyclopterus lumpus) under controlled and field conditions in Atlantic Canada

open access: yesFrontiers in Aquaculture, 2023
Lumpfish (Cyclopterus lumpus) have become the predominant cleaner fish species used in North American salmon aquaculture. Vibrio anguillarum is a frequent pathogen of lumpfish in Atlantic Canada, and current vaccines against local isolates conferred low ...

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.
