Red deer adult sex ratio: comparing three approaches using camera trap data

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, Volume 90, Issue 1, January 2026.
A naïve estimate of the adult sex ratio in red deer (Cervus elaphus) using raw camera trap data showed no bias when compared to more advanced statistical methods that account for detection probabilities or predict the sex of unknown sightings. Abstract European forests face severe challenges due to climate change, highlighting the importance of tree ...

Geographical variability of sprucebark beetle development under climate change in the Czech Republic

open access: yesJournal of Forest Science, 2011
Climate change is expected to influence the distribution and population dynamics of many insect pests, with potential severe impacts on forests. Spruce bark beetle Ips typographus (L.) (Col.: Curculionidae, Scolytinae) is the most important forest insect

Repellent Effects of Host Essential Oils and Limited Effects of Host Length on Tree‐Killing Bark Beetle Attacks

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, Volume 174, Issue 1, Page 37-44, January 2026.
This study demonstrated that the host essential oil significantly reduced Polygraphus proximus Blandford (Coleoptera: Scolytinae) attack density, but the density did not differ significantly among logs of various lengths of Abies sachalinensis. Our study suggests that host essential oils can perform as repellents against conifer‐infesting bark beetles.

Size-dependent behavioral and antennal responses to doses of (+)-isopinocamphone and 1,8-cineole mixed with pheromone: a potential host selection strategy in female Ips typographus L

open access: yesAnnals of Forest Science
Key message This study revealed differing behavioral and antennal responses between large and small female Ips typographus to two bioactive oxygenated monoterpenoids, ( +)-isopinocamphone and 1,8-cineole, which serve contrasting ecological roles as ...

Comparison of two types of ECOLURE lure on Ips typographus (L.) (Coleoptera: Scolytidae)

open access: yesJournal of Forest Science, 2010
The efficiency of two types of pheromone dispensers (ECOLURE classic and ECOLURE tubus) was compared in 2008. Pheromone-baited traps were checked 13 times in 10-day intervals (this guaranteed the efficiency of ECOLURE tubus all time).

Declining Bark Beetle Densities (Ips typographus, Coleoptera: Scolytinae) from Infested Norway Spruce Stands and Possible Implications for Management

open access: yesPsyche: A Journal of Entomology, 2012
The eight-toothed spruce bark beetle (Ips typographus) is the most serious insect pest in Central European forests. During the past two decades, extreme meteorological events and subsequent beetle infestations have killed millions of cubic meters of ...
