An Unusual Replication Strategy of an Animal Iridovirus

Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the unusual structure of the Frog virus 3 (FV3) genome and its unique replication strategy. An unusual attribute of FV3 DNA is its high degree of methylation. It is found that over 20% of the deoxycytosine residues—apparently every deoxycytosine in the sequence CpG—has been methylated at the 5 carbon position.

Production and characterization of monoclonal antibodies to a grouper iridovirus

A panel of six monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) against a grouper iridovirus (SGIV) were produced by immunization of Balb/c mice with purified virus preparations. Isotyping test revealed all the mAbs were IgG1. None of the mAbs possessed the ability to neutralize SGIV in cell cultures.

Isolation of an iridovirus from pike-perch Stizostedion lucioperca [PDF]

We have isolated a large virus from pike-perch Stizostedion lucioperca fingerlings with no signs of disease. The biochemical structural, and serological properties of this newly isolated virus suggest that it belongs to the family Iridoviridae. The virus multiplied and was cytopathogenic in several cultured fish cell lines.
