A broadly applicable method to characterize large DNA viruses and adenoviruses based on the DNA polymerase gene [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Background Many viral pathogens are poorly characterized, are difficult to culture or reagents are lacking for confirmatory diagnoses. We have developed and tested a robust assay for detecting and characterizing large DNA viruses and adenoviruses.

Trace Amounts of Ranavirus Detected in Common Musk Turtles (Sternotherus odoratus) at a Site Where the Pathogen Was Previously Common

open access: yesAnimals, 2023
Ranaviruses are global multi-host pathogens that infect ectothermic vertebrates and cause mass mortality events in some species. In 2021–2022, we surveyed two species of aquatic turtles in a Virginia site where previous research found ranavirus in ...

First detection of an invertebrate iridovirus in the daphnid, Daphnia pulex

open access: yesActa virologica, 2022
Daphnia pulex from a small pond were infected by an iridescence virus. Infected daphnia differed from healthy ones due to the intense characteristic pink reflected iridescent color. Infected individuals collected in the field died in laboratory as a result of the iridoviral infection.

Comprehensive analysis of ceRNA regulatory networks in the spleen of iridovirus-infected leopard coral grouper (Plectropomus leopardus)

open access: yesAquaculture Reports
Leopard coral grouper (Plectropomus leopardus) is among the most important economic marine fish in China. However, iridovirus infection has caused severe loss in aquaculture, creating an urgent need to discover the immune mechanism in response to viral ...

Complete genome sequence of the European sheatfish virus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Viral diseases are an increasing threat to the thriving aquaculture industry worldwide. An emerging group of fish pathogens is formed by several ranaviruses, which have been isolated at different locations from freshwater and seawater fish species since ...

SECOND INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON RANAVIRUSES:: A NORTH AMERICAN HERPETOLOGICAL PERSPECTIVE [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Ranaviruses are large double stranded DNA viruses of poikilothermic vertebrates including amphibians, reptiles and fish. In North America, ranaviral disease and ranavirus-related die-off events have been documented in all three classes.

St John's Wort (Hypericum perforatum) Oil on Immune Response, Growth Performance and Bacterial Resistance Against Lactococcus garvieae Pathogen in Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss)

open access: yesJournal of Fish Diseases, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In this study, we investigated the immunomodulatory effects of St. John's Wort (Hypericum perforatum) oil on the growth performance, immune responses and resistance against Lactococcus garvieae in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). The plant oil was incorporated into feeds at concentrations of 1, 3, and 5 g kg−1, designated as K1, K3, and K5,

Recognition of abnormal body surface characteristics of oplegnathus punctatus

open access: yesInformation Processing in Agriculture, 2022
To identify the abnormal characteristics of the oplegnathus punctatus is great importance to the detection of iridovirus disease in the breeding environment.

Invertebrate Iridovirus modulation of apoptosis

open access: yesVirologica Sinica, 2009
Programmed cell death (apoptosis) is a key host response to virus infection. Viruses that can modulate host apoptotic responses are likely to gain important opportunities for transmission. Here we review recent studies that demonstrate that particles of Invertebrate iridescent virus 6 (IIV-6) (Iridoviridae, genus Iridovirus), or an IIV-6 virion protein
