Local descriptors fusion for mobile iris verification

open access: yes2016 23rd International Conference on Pattern Recognition (ICPR), 2016
This paper summarizes the proposal submitted by the joint team conformed by researchers from UPV and ULPGC to the Mobile Iris CHallenge Evaluation II. The approach makes use of a state-of-the-art iris segmentation technique, to later extract features making use of local descriptors.

High‐Performance Wearable Triboelectric Nanogenerators Based on Polyethyleneimine‐Doped Cellulose Acetate for Self‐Powered Dynamic Signature Sensing and Verification

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
A high‐performance wearable triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) based on polyethyleneimine ‐doped cellulose acetate is demonstrated for dynamic signature authentication. The developed TENG with enhanced interfacial polarization and increased surface charge density exhibits excellent mechanical durability, environmental stability, and long‐term ...

Safety and Perioperative Outcomes of Immediate Versus Delayed Sequential Bilateral Cataract Surgery in the Pediatric Population: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesEye &ENT Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Bilateral congenital cataracts are a major cause of preventable childhood blindness. Although delayed sequential bilateral cataract surgery (DSBCS) has traditionally been the preferred approach, immediate sequential bilateral cataract surgery (ISBCS) is increasingly being considered to reduce anesthesia exposure and healthcare ...

Robust Iris Segmentation with Deep CNNs for Detecting Fully or Nearly Closed Eyes in Non-Ideal Biometric Systems

open access: yesComputers
This study proposes a robust hybrid framework for iris segmentation in covert biometric systems, specifically addressing the challenge of non-ideal images featuring fully or nearly closed eyes. To overcome the limitations of traditional geometric methods,

Proteomic signatures of equine dental tooth tissues in ageing and disease

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Ageing and dental disease in horses lead to structural and functional deterioration of dental tissues, yet their molecular signatures remain poorly characterised. Understanding how these processes alter the protein composition of enamel, dentin, cementum and pulp is essential for improving equine oral health and identifying ...

The Relevance of Curative‐Intent Metastasectomy in Colorectal Cancer Patients: Real‐World Insights From a Certified Comprehensive Cancer Center in Germany

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, EarlyView.
Patients with metastatic colorectal cancer who are ineligible for upfront metastasectomy may still become candidates for secondary metastasectomy with curative intent following response to primary chemotherapy. However, most studies dichotomize metastatic colorectal cancer into resectable and unresectable disease.

Human Health Risk Assessment From Exposure to Toxic Metals in Soils and Leafy Vegetables in Smallholder Farms of Northeastern Brazil

open access: yesJournal of Applied Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study assessed human health risks associated with exposure to potentially toxic metals (PTMs) in soils and leafy vegetables cultivated in smallholder agricultural systems in Northeastern Brazil. Soil and vegetable samples were collected from 18 agricultural areas and analyzed for cadmium (Cd), chromium (Cr), copper (Cu), iron (Fe), nickel
