Iron-binding proteins with vitreous humour

Biochimica Et Biophysica Acta - General Subjects, 1983
The soluble protein composition of Macaque monkey vitreous humour was studied in order to understand its iron-binding properties. The protein content of vitreous humour was 217 micrograms/ml +/- 4.6%, 40% of which was serum albumin and 30% an iron-binding protein of hydrodynamic properties identical to that of transferrin or lactoferrin.

Immunoregulation by iron-binding proteins

Immunology Today, 1986
Until recently there was little evidence to suggest that iron-binding proteins played any role in immunity beyond that of impeding microbial growth. Now it seems that iron, and its transport and storage proteins transferrin, lactoferrin and ferritin are associated with the major sets of cells of the immune system, and may be able to modulate a variety ...

Iron binding by tissue proteins

Clinica Chimica Acta, 1967
Abstract Using starch gel electrophoresis and immunotitration it was possible to demonstrate the presence of ferritin and transferrin in protein extracts from human tissues. Ferritin was detected in brain, liver and spleen whereas significant amounts of transferrin were found in liver and kidney.

IRON-BINDING AND STORAGE PROTEINS IN SPUTUM

Inhalation Toxicology, 2002
Induced sputum (IS) and bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) sample different lung compartments, with IS obtaining secretions from the surfaces of the bronchial airways and BAL sampling secretions from the alveolar airspaces. Deposition of iron-containing particulate matter occurs preferentially in the bronchial airways compared to the distal airspaces.
