Comparing pretreatment by iron of electro-flocculation and chemical flocculation

Desalination, 2007
Abstract A comparison was made between two technologies: electro flocculation (EF) and chemical flocculation (CF), which may be used as pretreatment in wastewater treatment. Natural water reservoir or wastewater intended for reuse, that contains high concentrations of iron particulates, often requires particle destabilization and removal.

The characterization and flocculation efficiency of composite flocculant iron salts–polydimethyldiallylammonium chloride

Chemical Engineering Journal, 2008
Abstract In this study, new composite flocculants were prepared from iron salts and polydimethyldiallylammonium chloride (PDMDAAC). The Fe(III) species and zeta potential of the composite poly-ferric chloride (PFC) and PDMDAAC flocculant (PFC–PDMDAAC) and PFC were measured by a timed complexation spectroscopy method and the Malvern Zetasizer 3000 ...

Improving flocculation and dewatering performance of iron tailings thickeners

Journal of Water Process Engineering, 2019
Abstract Most of the mineral processing and hydrometallurgical plants consume large volumes of water. A portion of this water is recycled to the process while the remainder is lost. This necessitates optimization of dewatering systems particularly in arid and semi-arid mining regions.

Selective flocculation of ultrafine iron ore 2. Mechanism of selective flocculation

Colloids and Surfaces A: Physicochemical and Engineering Aspects, 1995
The mechanisms involved in the selective flocculation of hematite from kaolinite, using starch as the flocculant, have been investigated. Adsorption isotherms of starch on hematite and kaolinite were measured by a thermogravimetric method, supported by infrared analysis of the adsorbed species and zeta-potential changes on adsorption of starch.

Iron Chloride Flocculation of Bacteriophages from Seawater

2017
Viruses influence ecosystem dynamics by modulating microbial host population dynamics, evolutionary trajectories and metabolic outputs. While they are ecologically important across diverse ecosystems, viruses are challenging to study due to minimal biomass often obtained when sampling natural communities.

Comprehensive reutilization of iron in iron ore tailings: preparation and characterization of magnetic flocculants

Environmental Science and Pollution Research, 2020
A large number of iron ore tailings (IOTs) are produced in steel industry, posing threat to the environment during its storage and disposal. To effectively reutilize Fe in IOTs, we propose a comprehensive utilization scheme: (1) most Fe in IOTs is extracted by concentrated hydrochloric acid to form FeCl3 flocculants; (2) after separation from the FeCl3

Preparation of Iron-Doped Titania from Flocculated Sludge with Iron-Titanium Composite Coagulant

Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, 2013
The main drawback of flocculation process with dye wastewater is the large amount of unrecyclable sludge which needs disposal. A novel process using Ti-salt flocculation to purify wastewater was developed to produced sludge that can be calcined to produce titania.
