Antibacterial effect of iron oxide nanoparticles (Fe3O4) in water treatment [PDF]

open access: yesBihdāsht-i Mavādd-i Ghaz̠āyī, 2021
In water applications, improper drainage systems increase the pollution of water resources. This study aimed to find an eco-friendly water disinfectant in the coagulation stage of drinking water treatment plants.

Characterization of interaction of magnetic nanoparticles with breast cancer cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Background: Different superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles have been tested for their potential use in cancer treatment, as they enter into cells with high effectiveness, do not induce cytotoxicity, and are retained for relatively long periods of ...

Templated mineralization by charge-modified cowpea mosaic virus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Templated mineralization of virus particles provides routes to narrowly dispersed nanoparticles that are not readily prepared by other means. The templated mineralization of metal or metal oxide on the external surface of wild-type cowpea mosaic virus ...

Mössbauer study of nanodimensional nickel ferrite-mechanochemical synthesis and catalytic properties [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Iron-nickel spinel oxide NiFe2O4 nanoparticles have been prepared by the combination of chemical precipitation and subsequent mechanical milling. For comparison, their analogue obtained by thermal synthesis is also studied.

Vacancy Coalescence during Oxidation of Iron Nanoparticles [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the American Chemical Society, 2007
In the present work, we analyze the geometry and composition of the nanostructures obtained from the oxidation of iron nanoparticles. The initial oxidation of iron takes place by outward diffusion of cations through the growing oxide shell. This net material flow is balanced by an opposite flow of vacancies, which coalesce at the metal/oxide interface.

Synthesis and heating effect of iron/iron oxide composite and iron oxide nanoparticles [PDF]

open access: yesSPIE Proceedings, 2007
Fe/Fe oxide nanoparticles, in which the core consists of metallic Fe and the shell is composed of Fe oxides, were obtained by reduction of an aqueous solution of FeCl3 within a NaBH4 solution, or, using a water-in-oil micro-emulsion with CTAB as the surfactant.

Rheological Properties of Superparamagnetic Iron Oxide Nanoparticles [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Engineering Sciences, 2021
The present study focuses on the rheological properties of polyethylene glycol (PEG) modified, positively charged, and negatively charged superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs) at different temperatures. We hypothesized that the surface properties of these nanoparticles in the water did not affect their rheological properties.

The Detailed Bactericidal Process of Ferric Oxide Nanoparticles on E. coli

open access: yesMolecules, 2018
While nanoparticles exert bactericidal effects through the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), the processes of the internalization of and the direct physical damage caused by iron oxide nanoparticles are not completely clear.
