Mapping the evolution of mitochondrial complex I through structural variation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Respiratory complex I (CI) is crucial for bioenergetic metabolism in many prokaryotes and eukaryotes. It is composed of a conserved set of core subunits and additional accessory subunits that vary depending on the organism. Here, we categorize CI subunits from available structures to map the evolution of CI across eukaryotes. Respiratory complex I (CI)

Yersiniabactin reduces the respiratory oxidative stress response of innate immune cells. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2009
Enterobacteriaceae that contain the High Pathogenicity Island (HPI), which encodes the siderophore yersiniabactin, display increased virulence. This increased virulence may be explained by the increased iron scavenging of the bacteria, which would both ...

Stochastic post-processing calculation of iron losses – application to a PMSM [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
To take account of the uncertainties introduced on the magnetic properties during the manufacturing process, the present work aims to focus on the stochastic modelling of iron losses in electrical machine stators.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Optimization of sponge iron (direct reduced iron) production with Box-Wilson experimental design by using iron pellets and lignite as reductant

open access: yesRevista de Metalurgia, 2023
Turkey’s iron ores may be used to manufacture sponge iron, and the country’s coal resources, which are plentiful despite being of poor quality, can be used as a reducing agent. With such a production, Electric Arc Furnace based on scrap imports, will be

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Production Decision Optimization for Iron and Steel Scrap Remanufacturing considering Carbon Emission and Delivery Time

open access: yesComplexity, 2021
Under the requirements of the national carbon reduction target, the recycling and remanufacturing of scrap iron and steel are taken by major iron and steel enterprises as requirements for implementing industrial carbon emission reduction and are ...

Integrated regulation of stress responses, autophagy and survival by altered intracellular iron stores

open access: yesRedox Biology, 2022
Iron is a mineral essential for blood production and a variety of critical cellular functions. Altered iron metabolism has been increasingly observed in many diseases and disorders, but a comprehensive and mechanistic understanding of the cellular impact

PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.

Life Cycle Assessment of the Sponge Iron Production Process Using OpenLCA Software: A Case Study of Khuzestan Steel Plant, Iran [PDF]

open access: yesتحقیقات نظام سلامت, 2023
Background: Since sponge iron is the main feed of steel furnaces for the production of crude steel, especially in electric arc furnaces, the production of quality sponge iron is one of the concerns of the steel industry.
