Carbon‐14 Perovskite Betavoltaics Reach Record 10.79% Efficiency

open access: yesCarbon Energy, Volume 8, Issue 5, May 2026.
A perovskite‐based betavoltaic cell incorporating carbon‐14 nanoparticles and formamidinium lead iodide achieves a record energy conversion efficiency of 10.79%. The device design enhances charge generation through an electron avalanche multiplication mechanism.

Isoelectronic Alloying in Zintl Phases Mediated the Avoided Crossing and Phonon Softening

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, Volume 9, Issue 3, May 2026.
A small amount of Hf doping endows Zr3Ni3Sb4‐Zintl with an unusually low thermal conductivity far exceeding that of similar systems. Two unique phonon mechanisms—avoided crossing and phonon softening—significantly suppress the lattice thermal conductivity. The average thermoelectric figure of merit is improved by 21%.

Utility of Fecal Elastase‐1 in Estimating Exocrine Pancreatic Function in Cystic Fibrosis: A Scoping Review

open access: yesPediatric Pulmonology, Volume 61, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Background In people with cystic fibrosis (pwCF), identification of exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI) is essential to prevent steatorrhea and, if not managed actively, can lead to catastrophic consequences. Fecal elastase‐1 (FE‐1) is a widely used test to screen for EPI in cystic fibrosis (CF).

The Central-European SentiMag study: Sentinel lymph node biopsy with superparamagnetic iron oxide (SPIO) vs. radioisotope

open access: yesThe Breast, 2014
Sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) is the standard surgical procedure for the axilla in early node-negative breast cancer. To date, the "gold standard" to localize the sentinel lymph node (SLN) is the radiotracer (99m)Tc with or without blue dye. The aim of this study was to evaluate potential equivalency of the new SentiMag(®) technique in comparison ...

Campo del Cielo Iron Meteorite: Sample Shielding and Meteoroids Preatmospheric Size

open access: yes, 2015
Long-lived cosmogenic radioisotopes, 10Be, 26Al, 36Cl, 41Ca and 59Ni, have been measured in five samples from the Campo del Cielo iron meteorite by accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS). The 36Cl activities were significantly above the background.

A simplified method for determination of radioactive iron in whole-blood samples

open access: yes, 2001
For studies on iron absorption in man radioisotopes represent an easy and simple tool. However, measurement of the orbital electron emitting radioiron, Fe-55, in blood is difficult and insufficiently described in the literature.
