Post-irradiation annealing of neutron-irradiated EUROFER97
Journal of Nuclear Materials, 2021Abstract Recent post-irradiation annealing (PIA) investigations on the neutron-irradiated reduced-activation ferritic-martensitic (RAFM) steel EUROFER97 have led to an almost complete recovery of the mechanical properties. To identify responsible microstructural processes, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) investigations on neutron-irradiated ...

Intense high-energy proton beams from Petawatt-laser irradiation of solids.
Physical Review Letters, 2000An intense collimated beam of high-energy protons is emitted normal to the rear surface of thin solid targets irradiated at 1 PW power and peak intensity 3x10(20) W cm(-2).

When precomputed lighting is generated for static scene elements, the incident illumination on dynamic objects must be computed in a manner that is efficient and that faithfully captures the near- and far-field variation of the environment's illumination.

In 1985 we presented results of a randomized trial involving 1843 women followed for five years that indicated that segmental breast resection (lumpectomy) followed by breast irradiation is appropriate therapy for patients with Stage I or II breast ...

The dogma of radioresistance of cancer of the kidney is unacceptable. No patient has been "cured" by radiotherapy alone, but an adequate dose cannot be given to the kidney without damaging adjacent structures. Tumors vary in radiosensitivity according to their anaplasia and oxygenation. Some respond to irradiation.

Chitosan has potential biomedical applications that may require the final products to be sterilized before use. The gamma irradiation of purified and highly deacetylated chitosan fibers and films at sterilizing doses (up to 25 kGy) caused main chain scissions.

Radiation and its effects on normal tissue are important to an understanding of the alteration of healing that occurs in a radiated wound. The surgical management of irradiated tissue is discussed regarding surgical procedures in previously irradiated tissue and regarding management of the nonhealing irradiated wound, the radiation ulcer.

Replacement of 137Cs Irradiators with X-ray Irradiators
Health Physics, 2009Self-shielded 137Cs irradiators have been used for many years to irradiate blood products to prevent graft vs. host disease and to irradiate cells and small animals in research. A report by the National Academy of Sciences recommends that careful consideration be given to replacement of 137Cs irradiators with x-ray irradiators.
