Embrittlement of irradiated ferritic/martensitic steels in the absence of irradiation hardening
Journal of Nuclear Materials, 2008Irradiation damage caused by neutron irradiation below 425–450 C of 9–12% Cr ferritic/martensitic steels produces microstructural defects that cause an increase in yield stress. This irradiation hardening causes embrittlement observed in a Charpy impact test as an increase in the ductile–brittle transition temperature.

Evaluation of irradiation hardening of proton irradiated stainless steels by nanoindentation
Journal of Nuclear Materials, 2014Abstract Ion irradiation experiments are useful for investigating irradiation damage. However, estimating the irradiation hardening of ion-irradiated materials is challenging because of the shallow damage induced region. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to prove usefulness of nanoindentation technique for estimation of irradiation hardening ...

The hardening of lithium fluoride by electron irradiation
Philosophical Magazine, 1960Abstract A study has been made of the effect of 1 MeV electron irradiation on the mechanical properties of lithium fluoride single crystals tested in compression. The yield point, σ has been shown to vary with the irradiation dose, φ, according to the law σ=σ u +A[1-exp (-Bφ)]1/2, where σ u , A and B are constants.

Irradiation hardening and microstructure evolution of ion-irradiated Zr-hydride
Journal of Nuclear Materials, 2011Abstract 6.4 MeV Fe 3+ ion irradiation was applied to a e-Zr-hydride to clarify the relation between the hardening and the microstructure change of bulk Zr-hydrides under neutron irradiation. Irradiation hardening was measured by nano-indentation test.

Annealing of hardening in copper after neutron irradiation hardening at 77 K
Journal of Nuclear Materials, 2001Abstract The stress–strain curves corresponding to single crystals of Cu irradiated and measured at 77 K revealed the onset of an upper and a lower yield point at fluences higher than 0.5×10 21 n m −2 (E>0.5 MeV), which will be referred to as the critical fluence, (φt)C.

Post-yield strain hardening behavior as a clue to understanding irradiation hardening
Journal of Nuclear Materials, 1998We analyze the post-yield true-stress vs. true-strain flow behavior of neutron and electron irradiated reactor pressure vessel steels, A212B and A350, and binary alloys, Fe-0.28 Cu and Fe-0.74 Ni. The flow curves suggest that neutron-irradiation hardening has the same effect as strain hardening for all the materials examined. The post-yield flow curves,

Discussion of “Irradiation hardening in copper and nickel”
Acta Metallurgica, 1961Direct evidence that the value of sigma /sub i/ determined by extrapolation differs considerably from that obtained by determining sigma /sub L//sub y//sub P/ as a function of grain size is discussed. Possible causes for the differences in the derived values of sigma /sub i/ and K/sub y/ are suggested.

Irradiation hardening behavior of polycrystalline metals after low temperature irradiation
Journal of Nuclear Materials, 2004Abstract Irradiation hardening behaviors of body-centered cubic (bcc), face-centered cubic (fcc), and hexagonal close-packed (hcp) alloys and pure metals were characterized after neutron, or proton and neutron irradiations at low temperatures (⩽200 °C).
