Periodic bursts of star formation in irregular galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2004
We present N-body/SPH simulations of the evolution of an isolated dwarf galaxy including a detailed model for the ISM, star formation and stellar feedback. Depending on the strength of the feedback, the modelled dwarf galaxy shows periodic or quasi-periodic bursts of star formation of moderate strength.

Composition, Mineralogy, and Noble Gas Content of Apollo 17 Particles and Soils From the 73002 Drive Tube

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Planets, Volume 130, Issue 3, March 2025.
Abstract As part of the Apollo Next‐Generation Sample Analysis (ANGSA) program, we provide bulk composition, mineralogy, petrology, and noble gas assays of lunar particles and soils from the top half of the 73001/2 double‐drive tube (i.e., 73002) studied by the ANGSA consortium.

Stellar Content and Recent Star Formation History of the Local Group Dwarf Irregular Galaxy IC 1613 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We present resolved-star VI photometry of the Local Group dwarf irregular galaxy IC 1613 reaching I ∼ 23.5, obtained with the wide-field camera at the 2.5 m Isaac Newton Telescope. A fit to the stellar density distribution shows an exponential profile of

The Westerbork HI Survey of Spiral and Irregular Galaxies II. R-Band Surface Photometry of Late-type Dwarf Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
R-band surface photometry is presented for 171 late-type dwarf and irregular galaxies. For a subsample of 46 galaxies B-band photometry is presented as well. We present surface brightness profiles as well as isophotal and photometric parameters including magnitudes, diameters and central surface brightnesses.

Morphology of star formation regions in irregular galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 1998
The location of HII regions, which indicates the locus of present star formation in galaxies, is analyzed for a large collection of 110 irregular galaxies (Irr) imaged in H$ $ and nearby continuum. The analysis is primarily by visual inspection, although a two-dimensional quantitative measure is also employed.

Seasonal Cycles in a Seaweed Holobiont: A Multiyear Time Series Reveals Repetitive Microbial Shifts and Core Taxa

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology, Volume 27, Issue 3, March 2025.
The red seaweed Gracilaria vermiculophylla holobiont exhibits strong seasonal succession. Its epibiotic microbial community shifts annually from winter to summer and back. The holobiont features a permanent core of year‐round present taxa and distinct seasonal cores, with taxa that consistently return during winter or summer. ABSTRACT Seasonality is an

DDO68 C: The Actual Appearance of a Ghost Satellite Dwarf through Adaptive Optics at the Large Binocular Telescope

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters, 2023
Through adaptive optics (AO) imaging with the SOUL+LUCI instrument at the Large Binocular Telescope we were able to resolve, for the first time, individual stars in the gas-rich galaxy DDO68 C. This system was already suggested to be interacting with the

Giant Halos in Dwarf Irregular Galaxies vs. Dwarf Elliptical Galaxies

open access: yes, 2005
We present a discovery of a giant stellar halo in NGC 6822, a dwarf irregular galaxy in the Local Group. This halo is mostly made of old red giants, showing striking features: 1) it is several times larger than the main body of the galaxy seen in the ...

Commodity risk assessment of Populus alba, Populus nigra and Populus tremula plants from the UK

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 23, Issue 3, March 2025.
Abstract The European Commission requested the EFSA Panel on Plant Health to prepare and deliver risk assessments for commodities listed in Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2018/2019 as ‘High risk plants, plant products and other objects’. This Scientific Opinion covers plant health risks posed by plants of Populus alba, Populus nigra and ...
