Oxygen and Nitrogen in Isolated Dwarf Irregular Galaxies [PDF]
We present long slit optical spectroscopy of 67 HII regions in 21 dwarf irregular galaxies to investigate the enrichment of oxygen, nitrogen, neon, sulfur, and argon in low mass galaxies. Oxygen abundances are obtained via direct detection of the temperature sensitive emission lines for 25 HII regions; for the remainder of the sample, oxygen abundances

Shakhbazian compact galaxy groups. II. Photometric and spectroscopic study of ShCG 376 [PDF]
The results of the redshift measurements and of the detailed surface photometry in BVR of the compact group ShCG 376 are presented. The radial velocity dispersion, the virial mass, the total luminosity, the M/L ratio, and the crossing time of the group ...

The Interstellar Medium in Dwarf Irregular Galaxies [PDF]
Dwarf irregular (dIrr) galaxies are among the most common type of galaxy in the Universe. They typically have gas-rich, low-surface-brightness, metal-poor, and relatively thick disks. Here, we summarize the current state of our knowledge of the interstellar medium (ISM), including atomic, molecular, and ionized gas, along with their dust properties and

Unusual Drainages of the Americas
Abstract While most rivers and lakes follow predictable principles of hydrology and geology, a few seem to defy the rules. Some rivers diverge rather than converge; some rivers flow in two directions; some lakes have not one but two outlets; some watersheds have ambiguous boundaries.

A Multiwavelength Portrait of the 3C 220.3 Lensed System
The 3C 220.3 system is a rare case of a foreground narrow-line radio galaxy (“galaxy A,” z _A = 0.6850) lensing a background submillimeter galaxy ( z _SMG = 2.221).

Steps toward Unraveling the Structure and Formation of Five Polar Ring Galaxies
Polar ring galaxies (PRGs) are unusual relative to common galaxies in that they consist of a central host galaxy—usually a gas-poor, early-type S0 or elliptical galaxy—surrounded by a ring of gas, dust and stars that orbit perpendicular to the major axis

Evolutionary synthesis models for spirals and irregular galaxies [PDF]
We show autoconsistent chemical and spectro-photometric evolution models applied to spiral and irregular galaxies. Evolutionary synthesis models usually used to explain the stellar component spectro-photometric data, are combined with chemical evolution models, to determine precisely the evolutionary history of spiral and irregular galaxies.

ABSTRACT Health data generated by apps and devices are increasingly popular and expected to affect various aspects of doctor‐patient relationships. No longer confined to medically authorised and certified health technologies, a range of biomedical data—from heart rate to blood pressure or oxygen saturation—are captured and processed by consumer health ...

A Wide Field Planetary Camera 2 Study of the Resolved Stellar Population of the Pegasus Dwarf Irregular Galaxy (DDO 216) [PDF]
The stellar population of the Pegasus dwarf irregular galaxy is investigated in images taken in the F439W (B), F555W (V), and F814W (I) bands with the Wide Field Planetary Camera 2 (WFPC2) on the Hubble Space Telescope.

We study the morphologies and structures of 57 dwarf galaxies that are representative of the general population of dwarf galaxies and compare their demographics to a sample of dwarf galaxies hosting optically selected active galactic nuclei (AGNs).
