Statistics of HI Extents of Irregular Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1996
Using the 3.′2 Arecibo beam, we have mapped the HI envelopes of a sample of 70 irregular galaxies (Sdm, Sm, Im and BCD), including 45 from the Virgo Cluster Catalog, 14 Field galaxies at similar redshifts, and 11 Nearby dwarfs chosen to give a complete sample out to 6 Mpc, within the Arecibo declination range.

An Evaluation of Antarctic Ice Core Nitrate Records as a Proxy for Solar Activity

open access: yesEarth and Space Science, Volume 11, Issue 12, December 2024.
Abstract Nitrate (NO3−) deposition in polar ice sheets archives valuable information on past solar activity. However, interpretation of Antarctic ice core NO3− records as a proxy for past solar activity remains challenging due to multiple sources and processes controlling NO3− variability in ice core records.

THE H-I DISTRIBUTION IN AN EXTREMELY FAINT DWARF IRREGULAR GALAXY M81-DWA

open access: yes, 1983
We have used the Westerbork synthesis radio telescope to investigate the distribution of neutral hydrogen in an extremely faint, dwarf, irregular galaxy, M81 dwA, which was discovered by Lo and Sargent in a search for intergalactic H I clouds.

The metallicity - redshift relations for emission-line SDSS galaxies: examination of the dependence on the star formation rate [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We analyse the oxygen abundance and specific star formation rates (sSFR) variations with redshift in star-forming SDSS galaxies of different masses. We find that the maximum value of the sSFR, sSFRmax, decreases when the stellar mass, Ms, of a galaxy increases, and decreases with decreasing of redshift.

Space Weather Effects on Transportation Systems: A Review of Current Understanding and Future Outlook

open access: yesSpace Weather, Volume 22, Issue 12, December 2024.
Abstract Space weather events, including solar flares, coronal mass ejections, and geomagnetic storms, have significant effects on various transportation systems. This review provides a comprehensive examination of the current understanding and future outlook of space weather effects on air, maritime, railway, and ground transportation. It explores the

Star formation in the Magellanic irregular galaxy NGC 4449

open access: yes, 1987
New NIR and FIR maps and J = 1-0 CO spectroscopy of the Magellanic irregular galaxy NGC 4449 are presented. The brighter 150-micron emission is concentrated along the central visual ridge of the galaxy, although there is lower intensity extended emission

A γ-Ray-emitting Collisional Ring Galaxy System in Our Galactic Neighborhood

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
The astrophysical γ -ray photons carry the signatures of the violent phenomena happening on various astronomical scales in our Universe. This includes supernova remnants, pulsars, and pulsar wind nebulae in the Galactic environment and extragalactic ...

BVR photometry of the resolved dwarf galaxy Ho IX

open access: yes, 2004
We present BVR CCD photometry down to limiting magnitude B=23.5 mag for 232 starlike objects and 11 diffuse objects in a 5.4' x 5.4' field of Ho IX. The galaxy is a gas-rich irregular dwarf galaxy possibly very close to M 81, which makes it especially ...

Interstellar gas motions around massive star formation regions in the nearby dwarf galaxy DDO43

open access: yesActa Polytechnica
Areas of massive star formation are strongly influenced by stellar winds and supernovae, therefore, enhanced turbulent flows are expected. We analyse high-quality Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array observations of the neutral hydrogen gas content of DDO43,
