The Public Character of Church in the Digital Age☆

open access: yesInternational Journal of Systematic Theology, EarlyView.
Abstract The rise of digital technology in recent decades has led to a rapid change of communication and interaction within society and its public dimensions. As this shift in the technological landscape raises theological questions about the appropriate ecclesial use of digital technology, it also touches upon fundamental questions about the church's ...

A Young Star Cluster in the Leo a Galaxy

open access: yesOpen Astronomy, 2015
We report a serendipitous discovery of a star cluster in the dwarf irregular galaxy Leo A. Young age (~28 Myr) and low mass (~510 M⊙) estimates are based on the isochrone fit assuming a metallicity derived for HII regions (Z = 0.0007).

The faint outer regions of the Pegasus dwarf irregular galaxy: A much larger and undisturbed galaxy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We investigate the spatial extent and structure of the Pegasus dwarf irregular galaxy (PegDIG) using deep, wide-field, multicolour CCD photometry from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) and new deep H I observations.

Intrinsic galaxy shapes and alignments I: Measuring and modelling COSMOS intrinsic galaxy ellipticities [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The statistical properties of the ellipticities of galaxy images depend on how galaxies form and evolve, and therefore constrain models of galaxy morphology, which are key to the removal of the intrinsic alignment contamination of cosmological weak ...

Morphology of star formation regions in irregular galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 1998
The location of HII regions, which indicates the locus of present star formation in galaxies, is analyzed for a large collection of 110 irregular galaxies (Irr) imaged in H$ $ and nearby continuum. The analysis is primarily by visual inspection, although a two-dimensional quantitative measure is also employed.

From cells to pixels: A decision tree for designing bioimage analysis pipelines

open access: yesJournal of Microscopy, EarlyView.
Abstract Bioimaging has transformed our understanding of biological processes, yet extracting meaningful information from complex datasets remains a challenge, particularly for biologists without computational expertise. This paper proposes a simple general approach, to help identify which image analysis methods could be relevant for a given image ...

Corvus A: A Low-mass, Isolated Galaxy at 3.5 Mpc

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
We report the discovery of Corvus A, a low-mass, gas-rich galaxy at a distance of approximately 3.5 Mpc, identified in DR10 of the Dark Energy Camera Legacy Imaging Survey during the initial phase of our ongoing SEmi-Automated Machine LEarning Search for

BVR photometry of the resolved dwarf galaxy Ho IX

open access: yes, 2004
We present BVR CCD photometry down to limiting magnitude B=23.5 mag for 232 starlike objects and 11 diffuse objects in a 5.4' x 5.4' field of Ho IX. The galaxy is a gas-rich irregular dwarf galaxy possibly very close to M 81, which makes it especially ...

Periodic bursts of star formation in irregular galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2004
We present N-body/SPH simulations of the evolution of an isolated dwarf galaxy including a detailed model for the ISM, star formation and stellar feedback. Depending on the strength of the feedback, the modelled dwarf galaxy shows periodic or quasi-periodic bursts of star formation of moderate strength.
