Capture of Irregular Satellites via Binary Planetesimal Exchange Reactions in Migrating Planetary Systems

open access: yes, 2011
By logging encounters between planetesimals and planets we compute the distribution of encounters in a numerically integrated two planet system that is migrating due to interactions with an exterior planetesimal belt. Capture of an irregular satellite in

Porosity Engineering of MXene Architectures: Toward High‐Performance Aqueous Electrochemical Energy Storage

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This review systematically summarizes recent advances in porosity engineering of MXenes, with a focused discussion on their structure‐governed energy storage properties. A critical analysis of structure–property relationships is presented across alkali‐ion batteries, multivalent‐ion batteries, and supercapacitors.

Proper Elements and Secular Resonances for Irregular Satellites

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal, 2007
We present results of an analytical study of proper elements and secular resonances for the irregular satellites of the outer planets. In the case of the Jovian system we identify three satellite families, two of them previously known (Carme and Ananke), plus a new agglomeration of four bodies that includes Pasiphae as its largest member.

Co-orbital resonance with a migrating proto-giant planet

open access: yes, 2018
In this work we pose the possibility that, at an early stage, the migration of a proto--giant planet caused by the presence of a gaseous circumstellar disk could explain the continuous feeding of small bodies into its orbit.

Signatures of Edge States in Antiferromagnetic Van der Waals Josephson Junctions

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The combination of superconductivity and magnetic textures leads to unconventional superconducting phenomena, including new correlated and topological phases. Van der Waals (vdW) materials emerge as a versatile platform for exploring the interplay between these two competing orders.

A Gas-poor Planetesimal Capture Model for the Formation of Giant Planet Satellite Systems

open access: yes, 2005
Assuming that an unknown mechanism (e.g., gas turbulence) removes most of the subnebula gas disk in a timescale shorter than that for satellite formation, we develop a model for the formation of regular (and possibly at least some of the irregular ...

Stoichiometry‐Programmed MXenes via Precursor Engineering for High‐Performance EMI Shielding and Energy Storage

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Precursor carbon stoichiometry programs internal strain and oxygen substitution in Ti3AlCxO2‐x, deterministically switching Ti3CxO2‐xTz MXenes between highly aligned 2D nanosheets and spontaneous 1D nanoscrolls. This synthesis‐stage architecture control enables ultrathin X/W‐band EMI shielding with outstanding mass‐normalized performance and bending ...

Data‐Driven Cation Engineering Guides Electrolyte Design for Sustainable Aqueous Zinc Battery Chemistries

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
To address the persistent challenges of vanadium dissolution and capacity fading in zinc‐ion batteries, we introduce a cation‐engineered electrolyte strategy underpinned by a data‐driven framework. This approach efficiently and reliably predicts a Na+‐Mg2+‐Zn2+ tri‐cation electrolyte with well‐balanced and sustainable advantages, enabling Zn/VOx ...

Model for Determining the Origin of Lunar Volatiles Based on Their Composition: Application to NASA’s VIPER and Other Landed Missions

open access: yesThe Planetary Science Journal
Lunar volatiles provide a potentially pristine record of the history of the Earth–Moon system in terms of both geologic activity and delivery of volatiles from the outer solar system.
