Uncertainties in Prediction of Wave Kinematics in Irregular Waves

1993
Irregular water wave kinematics have recently been measured in the wave flume at Norwegian Hydrodynamics Laboratories (NHL) in Trondheim, using Laser Doppler Velocimetry (LDV) equipment (Skjelbreia et al., 1989 and 1991). The use of Wheeler stretching theory to estimate water wave kinematics in irregular waves is recommended to represent the best fit ...

On Nonlinear Ship Motions in Irregular Waves

Journal of Ship Research, 1966
It is shown that the transfer functions characterizing the nonlinear response of ships in irregular seas can be obtained from high order moments of the ship motions by an extension of standard spectral-analysis techniques. Hence, full-scale measurements can be used to determine, for example, the coefficients of excess wave resistance and lateral drift.

A Lagrangian Model for Irregular Waves and Wave Kinematics

Journal of Offshore Mechanics and Arctic Engineering, 2003
It has proven difficult to describe the kinematics in irregular waves satisfactorily, in particular for the surface zone in broad-banded waves. A Lagrangian approach offers distinct advantages in this respect, eliminating the need for extrapolation of solutions or “stretching” of coordinates.

Irregular Wave Forces On A Pile

Journal of the Waterways and Harbors Division, 1965
A study of the forces on a pile caused by irregular waves was conducted in terms of time series analysis, for the pile section that is continually under water. A probability density function of force at a particular depth on the pile has been derived and is shown to be a function of two parameters only.

Waves and irregularities in the solar wind

Reviews of Geophysics, 1974
This review is not meant to be for the specialist who already knows the subject area but rather for the nonspecialist who wants a simple physical picture. Therefore some simple calculations are given to show why waves and irregularities in the solar wind are of importance in obtaining a physical understanding of the dynamical processes occurring in the

Irregular Water Wave Kinematics

1990
There are several theories and methods to calculate the kinematics of water waves. Most of the theories and methods have been developed for regular waves, like the linear theory, Stokes higher order theories, stream function theory, etc. The stream function theory can also be applied for an irregular surface profile, using the assumption that the ...

Irregular and Non-linear Waves

2011
The surface waves of the sea are almost always random in the sense that detailed configuration of the surface varies in an irregular manner in both space and time. Section 7.1 contains a brief description of the Wiener spectrum in connection with the generalised Fourier representations for the surface waves (S.
