Estimation of Wave Overtopping Rates for Irregular Waves

Journal of Waterway, Port, Coastal, and Ocean Engineering, 1997
The Shore Protection Manual (SPM) method for estimating the volume rate of wave overtopping under irregular waves is reviewed and extended. This article presents an improved method of applying a monochromatic wave overtopping equation to irregular waves. The improvement is to remove an assumption made by the current SPM method.

3D wave-equation dispersion inversion of surface waves recorded on irregular topography

Geophysics, 2020
Irregular topography can cause strong scattering and defocusing of propagating surface waves, so it is important to account for such effects when inverting surface waves for shallow S-wave velocity structures.

Performance analysis of a floating breakwater integrated with multiple oscillating water column wave energy converters in regular and irregular seas

, 2020
Maritime structure integration is widely considered as a potential solution for reducing the high Levelised Cost of Electricity (LCOE) associated with Wave Energy Converter (WEC) technologies.

An Irregular Rhythm with Missing P Waves

Journal of Insurance Medicine, 2018
An electrocardiogram on a life insurance applicant with a history of surgically repaired congenital heart disease displays an irregular rhythm with occasional missing P waves.

Parallel irregular software for wave propagation simulation

Future Generation Computer Systems, 1997
The objective of the European project STORMS is to develop a software tool to be used for the design and the planning of the UMTS network. In this context the ParFlow method permits the simulation of outdoor radio wave propagation in urban environment, modeling the physical system in terms of the motion of fictitious microscopic particles over a ...

The impact of reinforcement and piezoelectricity on SH wave propagation in irregular imperfectly-bonded layered FGPM structures: An analytical approach

, 2020
The present paper deals with the propagation behavior of Shear Horizontal surface wave propagating in two distinct models, i.e. functionally graded piezoelectric stratum imperfectly-bonded to a functionally graded piezoelectric substrate with rectangular

Ionospheric Irregularities and Waves

2018
Some of the fundamental scientific questions are raised, mainly focusing on the causes of mid-latitude ionospheric irregularities and waves, the upward coupling of energy in the M-I-A system, and the thermal structure. A definition is provided for irregular behaviour with appropriate examples of LSTIDs and MSTIDs in the European mid-latitude ionosphere.

Estimation of Incident and Reflected Wave Trains in Highly Nonlinear Two-Dimensional Irregular Waves

Journal of waterway, port, coastal, and ocean engineering, 2019
Most existing methods for separation of two-dimensional (long-crested) waves into incident and reflected components are based on linear wave theory. Recently, a new method for separation of incident and reflected nonlinear regular waves was presented ...

Uncertainties in Prediction of Wave Kinematics in Irregular Waves

1993
Irregular water wave kinematics have recently been measured in the wave flume at Norwegian Hydrodynamics Laboratories (NHL) in Trondheim, using Laser Doppler Velocimetry (LDV) equipment (Skjelbreia et al., 1989 and 1991). The use of Wheeler stretching theory to estimate water wave kinematics in irregular waves is recommended to represent the best fit ...

On Nonlinear Ship Motions in Irregular Waves

Journal of Ship Research, 1966
It is shown that the transfer functions characterizing the nonlinear response of ships in irregular seas can be obtained from high order moments of the ship motions by an extension of standard spectral-analysis techniques. Hence, full-scale measurements can be used to determine, for example, the coefficients of excess wave resistance and lateral drift.
